hey guys, this is my first post here so bear with me. right now i'm in a forest in West Bengal, where we stumbled upon this mushroom growing on a heap of elephant dung. i don't have a good camera for macro shots, but i 've tried to make the pics as clear as i can...sorry for the blur. i hope you guys can help!
it's as big as the clipper lighter. the stem's broken from the spore end...broke as we were dusting the spores off. butterfingers...

Habitat: Tropical climate, forest. West Bengal, east of India. It was growing on elephant dung.
Gills: Whitish gills.
Cap: Off-white with dark brown and black blotches at the tip and a few around the cap.
Spore print color: offwhite/white...

Not an expert but I don't think shrooms would ever grow on excrement.

Are you completely sure the spore deposit was whitish? How long did you leave it printing?

Oh, quite a few do.

Oh I'm sorry...I misunderstood. I didn't leave it printing...frankly I don't know how yet. I meant that the end of the stem with all the spores was whitish. Sorry for that! Is it essential that I do this? I'll probably have to look for another one then, chances of which are slim today, but maybe in a few days.

isn't exotic dung fun?!?
your first pic shows black deposits of something - you said spores - were there other larger, more mature mushrooms growing adjacent to it?
taking a print is easy - just put it on a tab of foil under a teacup for a few hours - if the print is white, on white paper you won't see it.

so I went back to the elephant dung today...aaand i found two more kinds of mushrooms.

#1:
#2:

#3:
#2 is probably Coprinus patouillardii, but i'm trying get its spore print to know for sure (first time I'm trying it)
#3: we found this one too, dunno what this is, maybe Coprimnus narcoticus, maybe not.
and finally, found a mature version of the #1 shroom, waiting on the spore prints.
okay, SWIM was wondering whether there is a possibility for the latter shrooms to be psychoactive (esp. #2) and whether SWIM should take the risk. also, any idea what #1 might be?

Especially elephant dung! These elephants scourge our farm in the summertime and leave generous amounts of their poo for us. In fact, SWIM wanted to get hold of some cubensis spores to grow on the dung. These are the parts where the world's largest cubensis shrooms grow on elephant dung...but I'm yet to locate them. The shrooms, not the dung.

#1 looks like a Bolbitius sp., perhaps something akin to B. coprophilus.
#2 and #3 are dung loving species of Coprinopsis. You'll most likely need a microscope to get further with them.
None of your finds are psychoactive, however.

It's a pleasure.
You should keep tailing those elephants, it might be rewarding.

glad you're posting your new finds - and just so you're aware, the only SWIMming we do around here is through weeds looking for mushrooms. just be discrete and don't reveal specific info according to guidelines. i'm looking forward to more reports
unfortunately your results trying to take prints from coprinoid species may be perilously gunky. they're known for turning into black goo as their spores mature. so, if you're pretty sure its coprinoid (sounds like you at least have an idea of what those are,) you might want to skip the print on them and wait til you get something a bit longer lived.
good luck on the cube hunt but i'm pretty sure there are also Panaeolus and Copelandia that you could encounter if i'm not mistaken.
