Not HPPD but...

I started using drugs like 3 years ago around age 30. Mainly acid, like a 5 strip once every 2 or 3 weeks. From the 3rd year I slowed things way down for a variety of reasons including my realization of how tolerance was ruining my trips and this serious anxiety issue I developed.
Anyway, at some point probably near the beginning I started to notice a new appreciation for the world, mainly the visual world, spaciality, etc.. Sometimes I'll just stare at something and get a satisfaction from i I never did before. Like near objects moving in front of distant objects, or rows of trees lining up as I passed through them. Sometimes I'll just stare at colors and they almost seem as bright as when I was tripping.
On the surface, I would call this an increased appreciation for life (or... stuff). But sometimes I wonder if it's the pre-stages of HPPD, or what would have developed into HPPD if I had kept up that pace.
For those with it or who know or have experienced something similar, please share.

it might be before tripping you just didnt pay attention to these things as you didnt expect them!
after tripping it broadened your horizons of what is possible to see, so now you regularly see what was always there.
its like hunting liberty caps... you may have walked past them hundreds of times with out noticing they are there.
but soon as you go looking for them... they are everywhere once you have trained you eyes to spot them in the field!
amazing how just seeing something changes your brains perception filters to allow the extra info dominance. and you will readily see it if your brain expects it to be possible or there.
our brain has to take in so much info and it has to grade infomation on importance and only take notice of what it conciders important. meaning we miss a good percentage of information as our brains block it out and to twist things further our brain adds things in to fill the gaps of missing information based on past experience and what would be expected!
maybe its the same pathways with tripping and if you do it enough your brain conciders the information worthy of paying attention too based on past experinces!
your brain for safetys sake will take notice of tripping and not block out the symptoms as it has a big affect on perceptions. it should learn after tripping lots to search and pick out the inconsistenies as it comes to expect them and wants to preempt what it needs to do next!
this can lead to you noticing strange visual effects that are natural and always been there but your brain didnt take notice of or corrected so you didnt see it before, purely as it wasnt on your brains agenda or relevent information list! previously your brain was trying to save you from confusion by altering your visual perceptions. now after tripping lots your brain sort of classes the visual effects as normal and exceptable information and so doesnt remove the information allowing you to perceive more as its now on its watch list! now -your brain now knows the info can happen and sees it as relevant so it is actively seeking out and search for this information all the time and not editing it out.
remeber the brain uses past experience and what it expects to see to distort and select what information is relevent at the time and only this information reaches the brain!
this is why optical illousions work and slight of hand magicians use works and also the dark nature that is subliminal messages.
the subconcious is a strange place lol

In agreement with mustangbob3 here.
A lot of tripping 'visual phenomena' is an exaggeration of normal processes which are there all the time, but due to gross familiarity, we filter it out.
Through tripping, we become aware of these processes, so we start seeing them when baseline.

Always had this even as a child. Was always curious about why the ceiling seemed to be moving or the wall paper haha. When you start tripping, and after the trip, you will naturally check your vision and these things stand out so much more. Especially if you focus and intend to alter your vision. I can start seeing things move or disappear if I stare and concentrate long enough, but my actual vision is just fine
