I will be updating all projects on this first page.
Single jar project Ps.Galindoi aka Atl7 Im going to use this thread for all my current sclerotia fruit projects
Inoc on May 30th Looks like a stone is already formed and the bottom hasn't colonized yet. Spawn is approx 20-30% bursted grains.. rye and some spelt(i think)

Top of jar

Bottom of jar

July 28 Almost two months later

---------------------------------
Galindoi Tub - Fruiting mushrooms project July 7 2015 Galindoi inoculated to substrate - 2qt spawn, wheat berry(grain soaked for 20min before inoc). 3qt substrate, coir/verm/gypsum. Tub is 27qt.

July 9 2015 Galindoi Colonizing

July 23 Cased with Coir and Verm

July 31 Fruiting begins...

Aug 23-24 This is the second flush of mushrooms, only 5 or 6. The temperature and humidity environment is not optimal. Sub looks dry. At least I still get stones out of it.

Sept 26 Cleaning the stones - what a pain in the ass, trying to remove vermiculite in the crevices.

------------------------------------------------------
Tampanensis Tub - Fruiting mushrooms project July 9 2015 Tampanensis inoculated in 66qt tub. 6qt wheat\rye spawn(soaked grain for 20min before inoc). 9qt coir\verm\gypsum substrate.

July 26 Still Colonizing. Bottom of tub is almost there.

Oct 19 Shocked me to see this globution grow out of the surface. Unfortunately no mushrooms. I knew none would grow anyway due to low temps. Tub thrown in closet area with very little air flow.

Dec 19 The last time I saw these stones were a couple months ago.. I saw the bulging stones through the clear plastic and I was surprised to see the stones surfacing like this. very cool. Temps are somewhat low.. No mushrooms, only stones

Dec 31 2015 Growth of stones are most likely finished. Water on stones seemed to have evaporated. Surface of substrate is still moist. No contamination detected, visually or through smell. I will be leaving these in the tub for another month.

Feb 9 2016
Finally harvested the stones. As you can see mycellium has been colonizing on them too. And looks like the surface of sub has a contam. Cleaning these were fairly easy.. bigger they are easier to clean. Very good experience! This is absolutely the easiest set it and forget it grow, ever. Throw it in a closet and forget about it.

Feb 13 2016
The Weigh In 4 days after harvest. Fan dried for a couple days.
The one mass stone - 316.8 grams

All stones total weight - 582.6 grams

Ive always wondered about sclerotia, how long does it take for these to start producing stones after inoculation? and how is the speed of the colonization?

this is my first time growing stones. Im not sure if this is normal for stones to start growing before full colonization. To me it looks like this stone is somewhat mature for a jar that is not fully done.

About 3 weeks, they are a little slower than cubes

If you used a MS and didn't shake after one week of growth it is common to have stones before fully colonized
Using a LI it will normally colonize before producing stones

Something looks very off in those jars. Specifically at the top. You may want to run these pics through the contam forum. The heavy lightening bolt pattern doesn't look familiar to me.

That tan/yellow lightning bolt mycelium is how Sclerotia producer mycelium looks when it's starting to produce sclerotia. When it gets that color, you don't wanna shake. Anytime before will be okay.

I guess it just looks far more pronounced than any of my jars of truffles have looked. I haven't worked with Galindoi yet, though. Just Tampa.

Ya that mycellium lightning appears when the stones start appearing. Its quite pronounced in this jar.. compared to what ive seen on this forum.

That's how my Galindoi looks too. It would make a cool macro pic.

Finished this? How much did you yield? Thinking about using brown rice flour is that good for Sclerotia?

kick ass
love seeing sclerotia grows
-------------------- But if you're in a hurry, and really got to go If you're in a hurry, might have to find out slow That it's one thing to try and another to fly You get there quicker just a step at a time It's one thing to bark, another to bite The show ain't over till you pack up at night
