drying issues

I've been having issues with blueish-grey powdery mold growing on mine while they are drying. I have a drying kit that consists of a Tupperware box, white and clear balls of desiccate that are on the bottom of the box. I have an aluminum tray with holes in it with a section of screen to place the mushrooms on. They do dry over time, but are not "cracker" dry.
What am I doing wrong? Any recommendations? Thanks!

Did you fan dry them for 24-48hours before placing them in there?

If you put them in containers when they are still moist they are gonna turn funky colors and get nasty things growing on them.

descant is for keeping things dry or getting the last little bit out. use a food dehydrator set to as high as it will go for at least 12 hours first.

No, I didn't. Is there a video or set of instructions you recommend? I followed whatever was sent with the kit.

Thank you. Is there an alternative to a food dehydrator? I don't have one.

Alternative. There are many. Fan dry 24-48 hours, oven on the lowest setting with the door cracked open, oven plus fan, anything you can think of to dry them prior to putting them in a drying chamber. Mushrooms are 90% water so unless you are drying a single mushroom there will be too much moister to put in a small tub with desiccant.

Don't bump your thread, make all your replies in one post. Use the edit function if need be.
You can dehydrate your mushies in the oven. Put it to the lowest setting, place fruits on a cookie sheet and leave the door cracked. If you have one aim a fan toward the open door to get the air circulating. Turn the fruits every 15-20 min so they don't burn.
But that sounds like a lot of work. If it was my hard work and mushies on the line I would go to walmart and cough up $40 for a proper dehydrator.

A food dehydrator at 135 degrees for 12-16 hours= cracker dry

I use a Nesco food dehydrator (~40$), set at 120 or higher and get cracker dry mushies in 12-16 hours, it works like a charm!! Make sure to store your mush in a mason jar closed tight with some desiccant packets, if you plan to store for long-term.

Or without desiccant packets, since they aren't required if the mushrooms are dry.
