She was doing barbell squats with a 25lb flat weight under each heel.
So she was basically doing these squats on her front feet in a sense.
WTF? Am I missing something here?

I've seen it recommended many times to put plates under your heels while squatting. I may be incorrect, but i think it might be to help with rocking forward?
**Usually it's been recommended to use 5's though.
FYI - this is a "thing"

I think it's suppose to help drive through your heels and get a better push out of the squat
They have squatting shoes for that too

Doesnt it put weight on the toes though? I have read countless times where that is bad.
This girl was not even close to being in shape which brings me to another idea... She has no fucking clue what she is doing and is doing it wrong.

There shouldn't be weight going down your toes, it should be driving down your heels.
Toes = no bueno heels = yes
You basically gotta lean back a bit so the weight can go through your heels.

This is just a way of making up for not having raised heels in your shoes. It helps to avoid butt-wink and to get the hips into a good position when squatting (or doing other movements). Here is what weightlifting shoes look like:

See the raised heel?

He said squatting in running shoes is better then bare feet.. Really?
Why not just learn proper form? Weights under the heels seems unstable. She was doing 95lbs at reps of 5-8 so I am thinking it is somewhat heavy for her. This is all the more reason not to use weights under heels.
I squat bare foot and curl my toes up. Problem solved.

I do it sometimes with air squats. It really isolates and targets your quads. I would never do it with weight tho, that's just asking for trouble in my opinion

You know what? I was surprised by that statement aswell, it is contradictory to alot of what i've read elsewhere. Never-the-less the video offers a good visual regarding lack of ankle mobility...
I also squat barefoot, although hadn't considered curling my toes up - that is a great idea.

Some people's bodies do not allow proper form without a raised heel. The better option is just to get Weightlifting shoes, with a raised heel.

I am one of these people that tippy toe walks. Damn short achilles tendons, hereditary thing I guess. Anyways when I got into heavy working out my coach
had me do this adf it helped incredibly for my form and keeping everything level.

I mostly do 5 reps per set, sometimes 8, but that's just what I've been focusing on lately.
A lot of people have trouble going to the bottom of a squat (where your hamstrings are pressed against your calves) without elevating their heels, it's just a lack of mobility and it can be improved with practice (just drop into the bottom of a squat, without weight, and try resting like that for a few minutes each day.)
You should be pushing through your heels, regardless of whether you have something to elevate your heels. I think it would be pretty hard not to do that when you have a heavy barbell on your back ...
