Help with extract from tea
    #21868970 - 06/28/15 03:06 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Hello all. my introductions . I am max. New to shroomery but not the Bobbie.

My question is if there was a half ounce worth of cubes in say 20oz of tea  how would someone go about extracting the psilocybin from the tea ??
All extract preps I have found only use dry fruit. No mention of how to suck it out of water based tea.

Is my best option to pour it in a cake pan with a fan blowing on it and just let the water evaporate ??

Shroomery University? How the hell did you find this forum ??

Anyway ya your best bet is to evap the water and encapsulate but it wont be "pure", it will have other stuff in it. Will likely evaporate to a tar.

You could try an acid/base extraction of the tar, may yield a more product.

actually zombie, from what I remember reading, psilocybin is unstable in solid form. Evaporating it would result in significant loss of potency I believe.

Heres my suggestion which I'm rather confident would work:
Psilocybin is more stable when suspended in everclear (or purest alcohol you can find. 151 works). You could boil down the tea to a small amount, and then add the alcohol. This will leave you with a much longer shelf life.

(keep that tea in the dark if possible. I think light will degrade the psilocybin too. probably not a ton, but that's specuulation)

You're not going to get it into a non liquid state easily. Best stick with liquid.

Ive evaporated tea and consumed right away with little potency loss. But I had it evaporated and consumed within 5 hours of making the tea. I agree leaving it as a solid in the capsules would not have a long shelf life at all.

Ive never liked any of my everclear extracts either, they always pale in comparison to just eating the fungus.

 very cool about the evaporation working.

I've never actually done the everclear thing. I make teas often. Did you know that psilocybin isn't very soluble in ethanol? That's why I'd use water as my solvent and then put it in everclear later on. (How'd you do it with your extracts? ethanol to start or water?)

Always started with ethanol because the tar doesnt dissolve in ethanol well.

Id just let the dried mushoes soak in everclear for a few weeks with a SMALL pinch of citric acid.

If you took it like a shot, mushies and all, you got super ripped.
But any tie I strained the mushies out and then evaporated it down to 1g/1ml potency it was weak sauce.

The very few times I evaporated tea and tried dissolving the tar into everclear for storage left a lot of gunk that didnt dissolve and the resulting everclear was also weak sauce.

Tea made from freah picked is by far my prefered method.
My friend made a large batch of tea for a group of friend to celebrate the summer solstice with. The tea was made a couple weeks in advance and placed in freezer. I have never had tea that was frozen for storage before. I found a few post that suggested this would have no effect on potency, but drinkers of the tea reported very poor results.
Have either of you had this problem before ??

At this point im reluctant to boil down for concern that more heat would futher weaken whats left.

I do have a strong interest in making an extract with high proof ethanol and vacume filters producing clear crystals of extract, but thats on August s budget plan

No. Any tea that I made and froze was equally as potent up to 3 months after making it. It should even last longer I just have no experience because the longest I ever kept it was 3 months.

I love tea, its one of my fave ROA's
Im tht guy who shows up to parties with half a dozen bottles of tea to pass around LOL

Then i must conclude that the potency problem happened pre freezing.
Thank you for the input

I didn't know tea could last that long, that'll prove useful this summer.

I wonder if the freezing is necessary?

Tea + summer =

I would freeze it for sure. It goes skunky pretty fast if not kept frozen.

I would say that anything over a few days of storage i would freeze. It is organic and pron to spoil if not preserved. I know from personal experience it will separate and go bad over night at room temp. I have seen it last 4 days in refrigerator

yeah I feel kind of  dumb for questioning whether freezing it was necessary.

like you said, its organic nutritious material and is prone to spoilage.
