nice pic MJ, you sure are lucky to be able to travel to different parts of the world and study all different mushrooms! are Copelandia cyanescens as powerful as Psilocybe cyanescens? or not at all?

Copes are pretty powerful shrooms at one dried gram equal to 20 to 40 fresh libs. However, Copes lose potency a lot by improper handling and drying methods so that many do not dry them prpoperly and they lose potency. They bruise easely sinc ethey have a different physiology than Psilocybe genera shrooms do.

First off when picking them never squeeze the stem. This causes extensive physical damage tot he flesh and their physiology is different than Psilocybe shrooms, so you want to handle them as little as possible.
Lay them into a paper sandwich bag, all in the same direction. Heat at one end of the bag and base of the stem at the other.

carry the bag as if it were a cup of hot coffee or tea so that the shrooms b do not bounce against one another.

When home, lay newspaper out and tear the bag so you can get tot he shrooms reall easily and then lay them one by one next to each other without them touching. In two or three days or so after laying the paper on a high shelf in your home, the shrooms will be dry and usually require a dried gram per dose or a gram and a half.

If not dried properly they may take quite a bit more.

Superb image John.

Do you have any pictures of any dried Copes, that you dried?

When drying Copelandia's for later use I've found, that nothing competes with a food-dehydrator. With a dehydrator you get them all cracker dry within 24-hours. And that a speedy dry is important for preserving the chemicals.. and of course your advice about handling them as gentle as possible is also very helpful.

I of course don't even have a dehydrator anymore because it was stolen from me, but those babies work wonders..

Mj,
From what I have read, first generation spores from the wild are a bit more difficult to cultivate. Is there a substrate that is easier for a first generation baby? Or is a typical agar/karo to grain to compost then case with buffered and sweetened casing sufficient?
Thanks,
puggy :rasta:

I use Ryberry seed and pasturized wheat-straw for mine.

mj

I have n been selling these since the early 1980s and people seem to get them growing ok.

anyway, you could make a spore syringe. That helps although I am not familar with how people do the syringes.
