Casing Queries, Alien Substrate?

This is a multiple question post...

1)Ok, so I've decided to move on from BRF cakes and move into the world of casing. I am trying to decide which substrate I want to use, so I was browsing the various bulk/grain substrates page and came across the Alien Substrate tek... Has anyone tried this substrate? It says I need a pressure cooker, but I don't have one, would boiling the jars like in the MMGG work instead? If not the alien substrate, which would be the best grain substrate?

2)My plan is to case several 1/2 pint cakes (how many should I use?) directly into the bottom of an 11 gallon clear rubbermaid container (like 1 big casing), and to birth the remaining cakes into another 11 gallon container, just as cakes. Does this sound ok?

3)As for CO2 exchange/humidification on the casing, I have an ultrasonic humidifier I had set up previously for cakes, is this too much moisture for a casing? Is fanning the only option then for CO2 exchange?

Any other pointers on casing would be appreciated. Thanks!

I you want to move on to casings and you don't have PC then you need to just stick with BRF cakes and make the casings out of that. That way you can still steam boil the jars for sterilization. Once your BRF PF jars are fully colonized, just cut a few of them in half and lay them out in you casing tray. Then crumble some more of them to fill in the gaps. Add a layer of verm or coir/verm to case and let it incubate until you start to see mycelium growing into the casing layer. Patch where it is needed to get even colonization across the top then put it in fruiting conditions.
