Lion's Mane Mycelium on Wheat Berries

I inoculated 5 one pound bags of sterilized wheat berries with 2 mL of LC 9 days ago, and I really can't seem to see any mycelium yet. I know that lion's mane mycelium is really wispy at first, but shouldn't I be able to see something by now?

That's a lot of grain and not much LC. So be patient :p
If you don't see ANYTHiNg at two weeks...well at least you're not growing mold!

I would use at least 10 to 20cc for a pound bag if not more

Wouldn't that introduce too much liquid into the bag? The instructions with the bags (and I have seen elsewhere) recommend up to 6 mL, but not much more for that reason. In hind sight, I should have maybe used at least 4 mL. At least there is no mold or contaminants. Maybe it will just take a little longer this way.

If you use LC make your bags so you compensate for the liquid.

Ohhhhh. I hope it didn't sound like I used only 2 mL for all five bags! I put 2 mL into each bag, just to clarify.

Naw LM myc is very fine until it starts to pin. Like single cell thick hyphae extending inches, it looks like actual cob webs only visible in good lighting.

sometimes i make lion's mane transfers on agar and i can't see the growth at all (i guess that's why some people use colored agar). then they surprise me a few weeks later when they start pinning on the plate. it can be hard to see, be patient

Thank you for the feedback everyone! I think I see a little mycelium in a few places. Man is it fine! I used a light and shined it from the side. Hope it all turns out. I tried lion's mane about a month ago, and I loved it!

Light is useful for spotting thin mycelium, I do that too. Do you plan to mix grains with sterilized or pasteurized sub?

I plan on experimenting a little with it. I will use some on pasteurized straw. Some to do 1 gallon zip lock bags with hardwood sawdust pellets. And some with a mix of sawdust pellets and straw.

Did it contaminate? I hope your new batch does good!

Hmmmm. My bags are kind of smelling just a little sour/moldy. Maybe just my imagination. Trying to smell through the filter patch. I don't see any obvious contamination. Twelve days since inoculating and there is some mycelium, but...

Yeah that's pretty much what I thought. I guess I'll just let it keep growing out. And see what happens. It's in a totally sealed bag, so it shouldn't spread contamination to anything nearby.
