Why do you think that forcing yet more idiots to vote would improve results? The problem with elections is that the skills required to win them, i.e. salesmanship, are only slightly related to the skills required to govern. Forcing more ignoramouses to vote will change nothing.

With a gazillion toxic poisonous animals everywhere? That might be enough to make me seek asylum in Canada and I fucking hate snow. At least it won't poison you, though

That's the least of Australia's problems. Japan just slaughtered them in women's soccer...

To each their own, I am not advocating people do not vote-
I was just elaborating why I do not vote, because of my reasons and beliefs.

You do realise you give control to a single person and they can make HUGE decisions that can effect the globe. Sounds a bit more fascist than getting people to pick the leader they want instead of being a lazy shithead. Cause murica has such great politics lel.
I think the biggest problem with mandatory voting here in Australia is that you have huge chunk of the population who likely wouldn't be voting otherwise, gullible, ill or generally uninformed morons who don't really know who or what they're voting for or against, they likely just base their decisions on the first thing they hear if they think it sounds good to them without delving any further to find out any more information. That's probably how the Greens get most of their votes, LOL. That's probably how the Labor party got voted in again before the last election when the Coalition took the reigns (and have now been cleaning up the mess that was left to them), and even then the amount of votes that still went the other way towards the incompetent bastards who's mission might as well have been to bring the country to financial ruin, WAS RIDICULOUS.
So I say we ought to let the lazy shitheads who don't want to vote, be lazy shitheads and let the people who have actually might have some semblance of a clue of what's going on in this country choose to vote on better informed decisions. Hell, there should be an IQ standard for even being allowed to vote.

If Democrats are puppies, then Republicans are kittens, therefore together they make cats and dogs or, theoretically, dogs and cats. I can't vote for either one based on that but I always vote.

No, I don't know anything I would vote on. If there was a Marijuana bill I would go out and vote. I don't follow politics.

I feel like we need more incentive. Because I’ve been in your position. But if we all took part in it, it would get better I hope. I can’t prove that. But I do feel that people like you are disenfranchised. Thats because you don’t feel like your vote matters. This isn’t just applying to you. I’m not trying to put words in your mouth. This is for everyone who feels that way. I also feel like the electoral college system is ridiculous. It makes you feel like nothing matters if you’re in a state where you aren’t the same color. That being said, though. If you ever have a chance to put somebody with the same beliefs as you in power. Instead of someone who doesn’t. You should try.

Voting is the only way to have my voice heard. You all might think it's just pushing dirt and water forward in a vast river, but if enough people push dirt and water the river will change. The Thames, the Rio Grande, the Egyptians made the Nile work for them, surely there are countless rivers that don't follow their original course. If you asked one man, can you change the flow of this ancient and mighty river with your own hands in one day? The answer is no. But when enough of us rise up even the mightiest river can be rerouted to turn plains into great valleys, seemingly eternal mountains into dust. Pushing dirt over time is the only course of action we've been given in this world, and I'll be damned if I don't help move the river of politics that affect every person in this country. The lazy elder generations may have failed us in implementing a system that is bound to lead to disaster, but I will pull with fire and fury against that dying light.

I've voted in most federal and provincial elections since I was of age but I've never voted in a municipal one. The equivalent here of voting in the primaries would be joining a political party and voting in their elections that they hold internally. I've never belonged to a political party so I've never voted in those.
