I accidentally let my wbs soak for 36hrs in room temp, it smells funky. My question is can I still use it with the funk smell?

You don't need to soak. I know there's lots who don't soak wbs. Just simmer until hydrated and pc. On a side note, it's just bacteria and should get killed with a proper pc cycle. Make sure to wash off any excess starch. It'll make you cry. Also don't boil. Simmer only. Lots of clumping happens from starch and over cooking bird seed. Hope this helps.

Just rinse it off to remove most of the bacteria and bacterial metabolites, then PC to kill whatever's left.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Given that the seed mix in WBS is of varying sizes, hydrating by simmering is far more prone to bursting the smaller kernels. Soaking ensures that all grains are evenly hydrated. The don't boil suggestion after the soak is also bunk. After the soak bring to boil and then immediately dump in the strainer to steam dry. Just don't forget about it and let it sit and boil for a while. If you don't pay attention and you let your hydrated grains boil for a while, you probably will have problems. I've let some batches boil a few minutes too long because I was working another mycology task. I never had any issues with them either. You must have to really boil the fuck out of WBS to actually have problems with it.
I soak with gypsum, so I do not rinse after the boil and strain since that would just be a waste. you shouldn't have to rinse after the boil anyway as long as you did an adequate rinsing job before you began the soak. This is a 20 lb bag of 24+ hour soaked and brought to a boil and then immediately strained wbs. After steam drying it was loaded up and PCd for 2 hours at 20psi. Notice that no grains are burst, not even the tiny ones!

I make large volumes of WBS like this all the time. I should make a tek showing exactly how I do it with my next batch, since after that my last bag of WBS will be gone and I'm switching to oats. WBS prep is so easy, I don't understand how people have such difficulty with it.

There's lots of people who haven't tried every damn method there is out there. I have. Soak and simmer gets the most water into your grain with the least amount of burst grains. If you change the water out every few hours during the soak you can get even more water into them without overhydrating.
Cubensis is very forgiving. You can fuck it up all kinds of ways and still get fruits. Or you can do it right and get an optimal amount of fruits.

glad you acknowledged the over hydrating (clumping) issue. I had no idea that was a way around it 36
