Bulk substrate casing question

So I have 8 rye jars that are somewhat ready to be cased or used as spawn for bulk substrate. I have already PC'ed 10 jars of coir/verm mix and I plan to put the rye like 2 inch layer alone on bottom of tray and then a 1/4 inch layer of verm and coir. Would it be a better idea to mix the coir and verm up real good with the colonized rye and then put a casing layer on top of that of plain coir and verm or verm alone?? Thanks -John

Don't use a casing layer, it's not necessary and only attracts contams.
You sterilized your bulk substrate which is bad. You were supposed to pasteurize it instead. Now it is highly susceptible to contamination. I'd say to read some pasteurization teks and make some more bulk sub before introducing it to your rye.
Don't layer your sub/grain and just get in there and mix it all together. Don't use a casing layer. Viola!
Also, you said your rye jars are "almost" ready to be cased? They either are, or they're not. If it's not fully colonized just wait.

Cased straight grains are almost never done because they run out of water long before they expend their nutrients, and mushrooms are 90% water.
It's much better to use your verm/coir as a bulk substrate, the purpose of which is to provide the water required to expend the grain nutrients. A casing layer is not required, but you might do well to save half a quart of coir/verm to cover any exposed grains on the surface.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Don't bother with layering right now just mix all your spawn and sub evenly.

While I'm not really a fan of verm casing it is easy as hell and does work. Coir is a solid casing material especially mixed with verm and easy enough tho it occasionally gets overcolonized. Peat rocks but needs to be buffered and perfectly pasteurized. I am going to start up with peat again soon tho cause its pimp especially for certain species.
