Creatine? Beta Alanine?

What are your thoughts on this substance?

I just picked up 1kg for $10 from powdercity (omg its so cheep!) - and have been taking 5g each morning for the past 3 mornings with the intention of using it until it runs out and reevaluating at that time.

I've heard alot of claims made about it - some people swear by it, others seem to think its ineffective at anything. I was attracted to it because i've read that it can aid in recovery, while also offering more endurance when lifting/running/cycling.

I just worked out - pretty hard and felt really in the zone. I didn't realize and hadn't really thought about until I was nearing the end, and then realized I was lifting with ease and felt really focused moving slightly heavier weights than the previous workout.

For the past 2 workouts i've started taking powdered beta alanine for the same reasons, so maybe it's the culprit?

Without a doubt I am feeling less fatigued and less tight/sore after a workout and it's really really nice.

What are your thoughts and experiences with these substances.

Creatine definitely makes a difference, although it does increase the chance of muscle cramps and tears. I take creatine for 3-4 weeks about once a year, and I notice an increase in strength and muscular endurance. Not a huge difference, but enough to bother with taking it.

I don't know much about Beta Alanine, I once took it for a short while but didn't notice any significant effects, so I stopped taking it. However, one of my cross-country friends swears by it, so I dunno. I don't think there is as much research supporting beta Alanine as there is supporting creatine, so I dunno. None of these things are going to revolutionize your training though, they might just give you a tiny bit of help here and there.

I once read that there was a correletion (of course, correlation does not prove causation) between creatine use and testicular cancer. Even if it's not proven yet, I prefer to stay on the safe side and not use it until the problem is cleared up.
