Variegated Seedling

I have a 3 day old variegated seedling. It is solid yellow where all the other seedlings I have are lime green.
Can I graft this early to young pereskiopsis?

Hell yea I've done it myself with good results.

Just place it a lil off center on the peres for best growth

I did the graft this morning. It was a very smooth operation. I put it on one of the nicest peres stalks I had. Still a smaller stalk, but good roots and leaves. I hope it takes.
Nice loph spaceman, my variegated seedling is a San Pedro.

Nice. Make sure you get some pics up at some point for us to drool at.
Damn spaceman, it seems like half of what he grows pops up as mutated or something. Lucky bastard

Yea I am a lucky bastard some how . I seems to have TONS of mutants nearly every time I plant seeds. It's been this way my entire life though
I have a few more mutants that are new. I'll post some pics here soon when I snap some.

I am concerned. One side of the scion appears to be separating. However, the scion is still half attached and still plump.

Plump is a good sign. Maybe it will attach well on the one side and feed the whole seedling. I think I see what you are talking about in the pic. From what I can see, it looks like the side that is attaching nicely is right there over the ring of the peres... if so, I'm feeling good about it. But then again, I'm still a grafting noob...

This was my third seedling graft. I've failed twice on week old Saguaros. This one looks different. It did not shrivel, so I also feel good.
All of my graft experience is with older pups and plant material.

 Good job!
Here's a question - is it generally accepted that young seedling grafts are more difficult to successful graft than older plants and pups? I've only done young seedlings so far so IDK.

In my experience they are harder because of the size of the seedling and the even smaller piece that becomes a scion. Also they require more humidity. Before this year, I had a hard time getting seeds to germinate, so I did not have a viable source of seedlings. Now I have many. I imagine with more practice, which I will be getting soon, they will not prove to be difficult.

I think you'll be ok buddy but you won't know for sure until you see the first signs of spines. I don't wanna scare you but I feel it's best to say that My first few albino grafted seedlings which were that small took a good lil while before they started showing signs of not taking.
I wish you luck my good buddy

yeah, it must have taken. even if you see half of the seedling detached, remember that the important part is the vascular ring. It happened to one of my Loph peres grafts, and it took a while, but after 2 weeks of stall, it started growing. The only inconvenience is that it has taken not perfectly, and the peres sometimes try to pup, instead of directing all the efforts on the scion. Good joob man.

nothing to strange about the pereskiopsis imo,
some get that woolly hair going, others not if that is to what your referring

I'd say it looks like normal stock as well, and that scion should take off pretty soon for you. I find pereskiopsis like trichos are highly variable in their appearance based on environmental factors

I see it's connected to the stock well but it looks to much like my early albino grafts which hold their shape well for a period of time and slowly shrivel.
Don't take this as the honest truth and please keep posting them pics I just felt I needed to say something "conscience".
If so don't be disappointed because I promise you'll have another shot soon enough

Did yours swell some before withering? His has definitely swollen up a little bit since it grafted...

Gotcha. For some reason I had it in my head that it was a loph this whole time. Then on that last pic you posted out of nowhere, I realized it didn't look like a loph seedling so I thought I'd ask.

Yea I agree dude.
My thoughts are. Don't be discouraged just start grafting seedlings that aren't so valuable to you as this one was over a lil time you'll really get the hang of it and you'll come across another variegate seedling that you'll feel a lot more comfortable working with due to your past success

Naw dude it didn't take and I could tell by day 6 and 7. The fresh young seedlings hold their shape sooo much better for a longer period of time if the grafts don't take. A lil larger "older" seedling would have noticeably shriveled by day 4 or so.
Continue to watch it though for a few more days or so. I promise you buddy you'll have another chance to graft a nice variegate.

Idk, you have way more grafting experience than me, but the first one I did that stuck took a little over 2 weeks to start doing anything...
I definitely wouldn't just throw it away or give up on it... Not until it drops off or something...

Thats the thing. Its strongly attached, and in person the bottom is fat and round. The top however seems wrinkled and dead. I plan to keep posting daily pics until it either takes off or dies. Im not scrapping it. Also, i had an older graft on a blue myrtle that shriveled up and all but fell off. The myrtle grew another pup, and now the scion is growing. So yea, maybe stalled.
