Variegated Seedling
    #21861376 - 06/26/15 07:35 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I have a 3 day old variegated seedling. It is solid yellow where all the other seedlings I have are lime green.

Can I graft this early to young pereskiopsis?

Hell yea I've done it myself with good results.

Just place it a lil off center on the peres for best growth:wink:

I did the graft this morning. It was a very smooth operation. I put it on one of the nicest peres stalks I had. Still a smaller stalk, but good roots and leaves. I hope it takes.

Nice loph spaceman, my variegated seedling is a San Pedro.

Nice. Make sure you get some pics up at some point for us to drool at.

Damn spaceman, it seems like half of what he grows pops up as mutated or something. Lucky bastard:rofl:

Yea I am a lucky bastard some how:smirk:. I seems to have TONS of mutants nearly every time I plant seeds. It's been this way my entire life though:grin:

I have a few more mutants that are new. I'll post some pics here soon when I snap some.

I am concerned. One side of the scion appears to be separating. However, the scion is still half attached and still plump.

Plump is a good sign. Maybe it will attach well on the one side and feed the whole seedling. I think I see what you are talking about in the pic. From what I can see, it looks like the side that is attaching nicely is right there over the ring of the peres... if so, I'm feeling good about it. But then again, I'm still a grafting noob...

This was my third seedling graft. I've failed twice on week old Saguaros. This one looks different. It did not shrivel, so I also feel good.

All of my graft experience is with older pups and plant material.

Good job!

Here's a question - is it generally accepted that young seedling grafts are more difficult to successful graft than older plants and pups?
I've only done young seedlings so far so IDK.

In my experience they are harder because of the size of the seedling and the even smaller piece that becomes a scion. Also they require more humidity. Before this year, I had a hard time getting seeds to germinate, so I did not have a viable source of seedlings. Now I have many. I imagine with more practice, which I will be getting soon, they will not prove to be difficult.

Looks like it has fused.

Might be something bad but since it has not shrivelled it looks ok.
