It is true! You can also use pf tek (powdered brown rice) as a spawn. You just need a cheese grater.
tl;dr you can use brown rice without a pc. Just boil for 90 minutes. 2 hours to be safe.

I only know brown rice is fine. I'm Asian and never tried out using rice. Now I'm ashamed hahaha.
No you can't shake rice flour. You'd have to follow the pf tek to the T, but instead of putting it in a shotgun fc, you'd grate it with a cheese grater into your mono, then mix it into your substrate.
You can however shake properly prepared whole brown rice. You also wouldn't need a cheese grater. Hope this helps

I use the pf tek with oysters to spawn to wood chips and its doing good. You can also use whole brown rice and steam sterilize for 90 minutes minimum and I also use it.

They can be sterilized without pressure. I don't know it's from the number of endospores though as people have claimed success with steam sterilizing substitutes like rye flour as well. The consistency affects how easy it is sterilize them. Like how a bottle agar can be sterilized in much less time than a jar of spawn. It's dense and has more free moving water and doesn't have those air pockets acting as an insulator.

Trying some Rye flour cakes in an unrelated experiment steam sterilized for 90 mins. I'll try and remember to post results here.
My understanding was that because flour is heavily ground and has small particle size, it could be completely hydrated and raised to temperatre more easily.
I didn't think it had anything to do with brown rice, but I could be wrong.
I haven't heard of doing whole brown rice without a pressure cooker, but if that's doable, that'd be great news for anyone that doesn't have one. Maybe it is about the rice not about the being ground up.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Anyways I did the math and I'll just buy a new PC ... Rice here is 10 times more expensive then other grains if I buy in bulk ...

Not sure where you live, but where I am the cheapest places to get rice are Dollarstores and bargainmarkets. They get weird surplus brown rice that probably failed to sell at other stores. It's 66c/lbs.
