It seems as though environmental scientists are being muzzled by a stifling government (They have to get government approval before sharing data with the media)......discuss

Well, that's bad, isn't it? This shit is spreading, governments around the world are desperate to keep us from knowing how bad things are getting.

This shouldn't be too surprising, the current regime draws its power mostly from Alberta oil money.

Canada has never been that green. Look at the massive hydroelectric projects in Quebec in the 70s flooding huge tracts of land

I like to think of Canada as "British America"
It is disturbing up to see this trend growing, of governments silencing climate science to please their corporate masters. I hope Florida sinks into the ocean rapidly enough to make a big dramatic example of itself.

Florida should be scuttled.

And now Quebec has plentiful cheap power that doesn't require burning anything or disposing of radioactive waste. If you're going to make an omelette, you gotta break a few eggs.

I guess Canada has no 1st amendment. That is what is most disturbing to me. At least in the USA...Big oil buys their scientists.

Even for all their money, big oil can't really change the consensus among scientists that we need to drastically cut back on fossil fuel burning to avert global catastrophe. So instead they are having their lackeys suppress dissent at the state level, i.e. Florida and now Canada. Seriously, Florida is going to be the first state to sink into the ocean and I don't think any of us are really going to miss it.

Deforestation in Canada:

The Alberta Tar Sands (can apparently even be seen from space:

And there is a lot of speculation that the recent anti-terrorism bill that the Conservatives hammered through is more interested in focusing on environmental rights activists (whom the government has already previously decided is a terrorist organization) and potentially the First Nations tribes that are obstructing the illegally approved pipeline projects.

That is what the whole Keystone pipeline mess has been about. Moving that shit to the US Gulf to be refined. I've seen firsthand some of the "clearcuts" they do up there in BC. They stopped clearcutting forests in the US 50 years ago because of all the bad that comes out of it. That is ...except the paper companies pine tree farms that are grown and harvested like a crop.

Have not seen the cutting in BC myself, but have seen the cutting in Ontario from multiple angles.
Driving across the Ontario, the highway twists and turns through all sorts of rock cuts with trees shading much of the road. From the hilltops, it is possible to see that a short distance from the road (far enough not to disrupt much of the driving scenery) huge swaths of forest are cut out stretching into the distance. From a plane it is even possible to see in some places how far it stretches.
Really kind of sums up Canada though -- keep just enough to maintain appearances while hiding the actual impact.
