Well, it's not trich
    #21857902 - 06/25/15 11:17 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

What do you think this contaminate is, and will I be able to recover/cure this cake? Will the any fruits be considered contaminated? If the fruits themselves aren't contaminated but have contaminate spores on it, how would I rid it of contaminate spores to take a print or make a culture? Middle of the stem for culture?

My dumb ass forgot the pic

Don't take a print of a contaminated cake unless you want more contams in the future. Just toss its not worth the risk for 1 cake.

That looks greenish on the left side.  I'd take it out of there before it spreads.

The green is what I presume to be a severe bruise from the fan causing too much FAE; I hear if it wipes off green, it's trichoderma, but nothing came off when I wiped it a few days ago. That fuzz is disconcerting for sure though.

I'm not entirely sure. Definitely no trich. My guess on the yellow is bacteria. It also looks too fuzzy for my liking.

There's a 2nd cake in that chamber that just started pinning recently; Do you think instead I should take a culture from the inner tissue of a stem (near the cap)

Metabolites although do break down stuff, it's more often than not present because of bacteria or contaminations. It's very antibacterial.

What's in the cake?  I've been messing around with coffee grounds, not having much luck.

That being said, do you think it can recover on it's own, or is there anything I can do to help it out a bit?

So you replaced the verm with coffee grounds, then added water to field capacity?

Same cake after a misting and fanning (after two days of absence during 110F weather)

My other one went from whitish to yellow right after I misted. (Tons of myc piss )

Yeah, pretty much; It took nearly twice as long to colonize, but with all the presumable substrate, I'm hoping I get more than a couple fruits from them.

Slow colonization was my issue too.  I think adding gypsum would level out the ph?  That cake looks awful man.  Is that green or blue?

Edit: sorry, you already answered that.

Imo I'd at least isolate it and let it fruit in solitude. That way it won't endanger healthy cakes.

It's a bit of a combination honestly; I find the after the bruises blue, they fade to a light green. Not trichoderma though, just bad bruising. Gypsum is alkaline?

They both look like shit; I was advised to toss them like two days ago, but I didn't, and instead just neglected them - Until today when I noticed pins.

Gypsum is calcium sulfate. The calcium raises pH and the sulfate will lower it. Thus, it's completely neutral. Added with coffee would make the pH closer to neutral than with just coffee.

Then just make sure they're constantly glistening. I've had flushes from worse looking things. Not that I should be bragging about that..

Seems kind of pointless to add unless it's adding specific nutrients? I'd imagine the PH is fine, because people like to pasteurize their rye berries using watered-down coffee; At least from what I've read.

Yeah it should be fine. I doubt it's the problem. Just saying what should realistically happen to the pH. It does benefit a lot in bulk, but I haven't seen a reason to use it with grains, besides to stop clumping.
