Ultrasonic Humidifier Shuts off using timer
    #21857455 - 06/25/15 09:50 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I have a PureGuardian ultrasonic cool mist, model # H965, hooked up to a digital timer.  I also have a vicks V400 plugged in the timer too.
My issue:
When the timer turns turns off both humidifiers turn off, but when the timer kicks back on only the vicks V400 turns on.  The PureGaurdian does not turn on.

Here's what it looks like.
To turn on or off the ultrasonic you just have to press that button.

Anyone think it would be possible to mod the electrical components of this ultrasonic so it turns on when the timer kicks on?

It has an "auto shut off feature".  Maybe this function is creating the problem.

Honestly humidifiers are pretty bunk, misting with a spay bottle is so much easier.

Spray bottle won't be enough in a GH. Good luck OP I'm not a GH guy at all.

Of course I choose the ultrasonic cool mist that is not timer friendly...
I mean most humidifiers for sale are not meant to run inside small green houses with high humidity 24/7, but I cannot be near my GH around the clock to fan and mist.

I may try taping the power button down and seeing how it reacts to the timer turning back on.

Dude, taping it is not going to work. Try separate timers. If that doesn't work, get a different brand of humidifier

Losing power must reset the switch to the off position.  You can probably open it up, find the switch mechanism, remove it, and just solder it so it's on permanently.  The timer will serve as the control.  It may not just be the obvious switch, it may connect to some sort of relay or secondary switch given its behavior.  Try to trace the wires back to the vibrator   I doubt there is much if any necessary circuity other than a power connecting to it.

Post some photos if you're not sure what to do once it's open.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister.  I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave.  I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent.

Alright Machiavelliavore, let me know what you think.
Forgot to mention this ultrasonic has 3 settings, low, medium & high, all controlled by that one power button.  So ideally i would want the high setting to run for a few minutes every half hour or so.

Power coming in at the top of this picture.

Here is a closer shot of that.

Side view.

The one click power button is the small black button towards the bottom left of the chip.

Wow that circuitry is more involved than I imagined it to be.  I figured all it would do is generate an amplified frequency and control it with a rheostat.  It's been quite a while since I've done any digital circuits.

I would start by trying to holding the power switch down constantly to test for response.  See if it turns on at all without releasing the switch, and if it stays on with the switch held down.

Check with both of those power switches, I'm not sure why there are two or what the function difference is.

The power is probably controlled by some kind of digital switch.  The momentary connection the power button normally creates switches it on, and it stays on until it's turned off or loses power resetting it to default.  What we don't know is how it will respond to a constant signal telling it to turn on.  A computer might do something like shut off, but this circuitry is much more primitive, so it's at least worth checking.  Most likely this will not work, but if it does, it would be easy to permanently short one of these switches

If you look in picture 3, you'll see an elevated half-cylinder shaped component with three "legs" near the wiring harness.  This is probably a mosfet and likely the component being controlled by the momentary short at the power switch.  If you could read the component number off of it, that might help.  I'll see if I can think of an intuitive way to short past that component and leave it on permanently.

Come on, there's got to be someone who knows more about electronics here than me! I hope I didn't goad you into an excruciating disassembly on the assumption that I was a tech guru.

This is humidifier purchase #6 or 7 in the past few years,  i'm used to it:rolleyes:
I think I will have to run this one on low setting 24/7.  I have found that to work ok.
