I would be happy to wipe every 95 year old off the planet to save a 5 year old.

Hell I would let the 5 year old die too if I had the chance. Can we just kill everyone involved in the situation?

I'd let the smaller group live, regardless.of the age of said group.

I'd think of it in terms of resources. It takes a looooong time to grow a 95 year old. Doesn't take very long to grow a 5 year old. I could have thousands of 5 year olds in the time it takes me to get one 95 year old, therefore a 95 year old is far more valuable.

Actually, thousands of 5 yr olds are attainable in 1/19 the time it would take for any number of 95 yr olds.

You have to factor in disease and death and what not. Very easy to raise a human to 5, it's quite an achievement to live to 95.

Technically speaking, yes. They must have very strong genetics. Who knows what fucked up genetics that haven't presented themselves are hiding in the 5 year olds.
Although as I understand anatomy that's not really practical. We should clone them instead.

I don't think age is much of a consideration in the situation. I don't think children are necessarily more valuable than adults. In a society that has convinced itself it has reversed the order of nature, the ultimate failure of that society is the death of a child. We couldn't protect a child in a world we created. So we react with shock because it throws our own collective societal failure, and the vulnerability of our world, right in our faces. Throw all that out the window and you're left with two soggy boxes of flesh, one with potential fulfilled and another with potential unfulfilled. Neither is more valuable in the scenario. So the answer isn't obvious from the start, to me anyway.

I guess it's because a 95 year will likely die very soon anyway. A higher chance to die very soon than a 5 year old. About 110 is the oldest person I've ever heard of. I pooped ma pants.
