yeast on spawn
    #21854424 - 06/25/15 10:07 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I was given a LC of pink oyster and apparently it was contaminated with yeast. All the jars colonized and I didn't want to lose the culture so I spawned heavy and did all seven jars into one pail of sawdust. My thinking is the sawdust has little to no sugars for the yeast and the mushrooms should flourish? All I need is some fruits to make clones and ill be good.

so what are you asking? is there enough sugar in wood to support yeast growth?

At this point all I could say is provide optimal conditions and pray to the god of your choice. You spawned all the jars to the single bulk substrate essentially placing your eggs in one basket.
Oysters are pretty rugged, you will see fruits more than likely.

*edit I am reading articles now about culturing and mass producing food yeasts from wood carbohydrates. I will report back with a link when I find enough satisfactory information. It appears that aside from the sugars, the yeast will consume the carbohydrates in the wood.

Good luck to you.

I purchased a new commercial culture lol. I still have a grow bag of partially colonized brewers grain in my closet. When my petri dishes come in, and i order some sort of antibacterial additive for my agar ill try making a sandwich to drive out the contams. The pails turned to shit and i dumped them in my compost.
