Identification Help Please!!
    #21851246 - 06/24/15 04:12 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I believe to have found Gymnopilus Aeruginosus in a Phormium (Bronze Baby) potted plant at the nursery I work at, but am not sure. Need someone of higher expertise to confirm.

Looks to me like blue-green bruising at the base of the big one. Can you take a closeup of it? They look like gyms to me, but I'd recommend tasting a small bite (then spitting out without swallowing) to see if it has the extreme bitterness gyms are known for. With blue-green bruising and a bitter taste I would be confident they are an active species of Gymnopilus. Which one, I couldn't say for sure.

Ooooo such a quick response. Thankyou:heart:.
Wasn't sure which mushroom you meant, so I took pics of both of the larger ones. Also the taste was very bitter.

I don't really see any blue-green bruising in those pics. Here's what Gym bruising looks like though:

It's most obvious on the little, underdeveloped fruits, like in this example. Sometimes putting the mushrooms in the fridge overnight will help bring it out. What part of which continent did you find these in? Looks like you found them in California, yeah?

Found them in Northern California. Up in Humboldt County. They all seem to be bruising a dark brown. Gonna throw them in the fridge and see if they bruise blue-green.
