It cost less than a buck so its whatever really. Would you suggest I do it 1:1 replacement of potato flakes on a PDA recipe?

Maybe I can salvage some of the healthy white from the outside but idk.
And if these plates are toast too then I'm back to taking my chances with vendors. I didn't take any clones this time around.
What about these, they've been in bags in the fridge since April.

First person (second reference) here, that I've heard using a shredder. I bought a WORX shredder, a few months ago. Best investment ever!! Did 6 large 50 lb bales, in an few hours, straight into jumbo heavy grade trash bags, for storage. That, and my custom made coir grater, have shaved many many hours off of my bulk sub prep!

30 g potato starch, soluble 20 g dextrose/glucose 15 g agar, pure (omit for liquid media) 1000 mL h2o. sterilize by autoclaving at 15 pounds per square inch (100 kPa) for 15 minutes Dispense 20-25 ml portions into sterile 15 × 100 mm petri dishes. Adjust pH 5.6 after autoclaving
that's the potato starch agar recipe.
you can use up to 20g/l agar.

So far, I've only used a premixed LME/Agar, but am intrigued. Is there any advantage to the potatoe starch?

Its good to rotate media, especially for long term culture storage.

Very cool, azur. Oh the possibilities. Do want. Right now manure is shredded using a grey storage tote with 6 inch hole cut into center of lid, and an electric weed eater. WOrks great, but takes a cool minute to get manure shredded. Still better than doing it by hand, imho. Woud really like to utilize one of these shredders in the maner that you have (for shredding straw and manure). What kind of shredder is that? All that can be seen from here are the letters "MTD/O" on it?? Also, have you ever ran field-aged cow manure through that shredder? Can't imagine the cow shit causing any sort of issue for a freakin shredder. Stranger things have happened though.

Thank you. Still learning the joy of agar. On some 5th transfers now. Thinking of throwing a bunch of them onto slants soon.

Check out a WORX leaf shredder. Essentially a weed eater, upside down, in a hopper, with a frame to hold any sized catch bag. Under $150, light, quitet, easy to clean. Super effective! Did 300 pounds of straw, in a few hours...

Imagine if you only ate cheeseburgers everyday for a week. Then, next week, I give you more cheeseburgers.
You'd get tired of eating the same stuff wouldn't you? So does mycelium on agar, it knows its being fed the same food.

Not sure if it was you or not, but a few years ago someone just ran over straw using a lawn mower or mulcher.
Do you know if its possible to put straw into a tub and weed wack it?

it's actually more of a stress response and similar things to "crabtree effect" that happens in yeast.

different pathways activate in fungal species in response to environment down regulation of some things and up regulation of others can lead to lags in performance
