I've been growing cacti in pro mix with a little sand or perlite added (didn't add both to the same mix). My cacti have stayed fairly wet as I've just left them completely unattended outdoors, the pots were left in the grass and got completely overgrown even (not in the pot, but the grass around it just got so high). They've stayed wet for weeks in other words and they are totally healthy so I would imagine straight pro mix will be just fine.

The trays of seedlings have just about no visible water left, although I think there is a good amount of moisture in the growing medium. Everyone appears healthy and happy I don't see any rotted ones but maybe I'll make closer inspection in the next few days.
The full sized cacti that I dunked for 24 hours appears to be perfectly healthy too.

More info would be nice. What grow zone are you in? Whats yout average tempz like? How often does it rain, or all the cacti getting soaked by morning dew (condensation)
We have hurricane winds and rain where i am at until around october. My climate is suited for cacti, but the ground here is not. Our temps are averaging 90 this week.

I average about 77F in the day and I don't let them dip below 60F so I have no dormancy period. With the dome I have approximately 80 Relative Humidity. Dew and rain don't apply because the cover is on 24/7. They are in a very shady spot.
I still haven't watered them and the cinder is still very moist. I could duct-tape up the sides for even less water loss on the trays but it's not a big deal to me. I haven't lost a single cacti that I know of since the OP, and I checked yesterday for rot.
