Bag tek question
#21850805 - 06/24/15 02:43 PM (8 years, 7 months ago) |

So for my first time growing I've chosen to do a bag tek because it sounds the most simple. Anyways I would like you guys to look at the steps of my bag tek that I bought online and let me know if the instructions are leaving anything out or not or any suggestions. Here's the link http://sampedros.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/bag-tek-mushroom-growing-kit.html Thanks guys!

I know oyster spores come with it, I will be using golden teachers, not oyster spores.. Any advice or does the instructions seem pretty foolproof?

I dunno. But it says a 400gm yield which I'm sure is wet weight. I bet you wouldn't crack an oz, but who knows.
I've seen 2 or 3 successful grow kits, but I've also seen hundreds crash and burn.
I don't even see a link to purchase it or how much it costs. I'd save your money man

why do you say that? I know it's not the best way to do it, but do you think it would work for a newbie like me?

because grow kits for the overwhelming part, are complete shit.
They cut corners to save money, who knows how lng they even sterilized that. Oysters are much more aggressive than cubes, so I'm not sure how well using an oyster kit for cubensis will be
And unless you want a mod bitching at you, I'd quit the double and triple posting

what grow kit would you recommend, Buck513? it's not just an oyster kit it says you can use it on many different kinds of mushrooms, which I would think cubensis would also work on those because they sell cube spores as well.. Aren't the ingredients in this kit the same as you would use for cubes?

There's not a single grow kit out there i would put my name behind. That's been my whole point
Its way cheaper to buy things separately.

The point is, he won't recommend any grow kit to you. Do a few searches and learn the teks yourself. I learned everything i know without asking a single question on here. So can you.

I bought this kit for 15 dollars, I doubt I could buy all of the equipment for this price.. Other than them sucking, etc. what is the reasoning as to why this kit sucks. So in a nutshell I won't get any shrooms out of it in the end or what? You guys are just saying it sucks without giving any reasoning

Just take your time and go over the pf tek when I started I too found everything complicated but I looked at the things I didn't get that's all it takes. Just use the search function

rye grain is the substrate.. here's the whole list of what it comes with. A sterilized 500g rye grain mushroom growing bag. A large fruiting bag & perlite. *MUSHROOM SPORES ARE NO LONGER INCLUDED IN THIS KIT* Casing mix. Alcohol swabs for cleaning.

after simply skimming through your link I can name a few:
pre-sterilized grains. how were they sterilized? prepped? how long have the bag been sitting before it got to you? casing a pound of grains with verm? no thanks.
the humidity tent is just a simple choke bag. it will be a bad FC for cubensis and a horrible one for oysters.
the instructions are just but they can be thrown away
so you're getting a pound of grains and a small bag of verm for 15$. that's kinda crappy! bag of verm+brf is cheaper than that.

I guess you didnt read the thread i linked to you. And I told you they're shit because they cut corners, and over charge. Well since you bought it, be sure to update us. On second thought I doubt you'd get half an oz. Youre fruiting straight from grain
You can buy all the matertials you need to get started for 50 or less.
10 bucks or so on jars, some brf, perlite, a tote. That's just about it.
You can grow ounces easily and consistently with the pf tek. You can muster up a few grams or so from a kit. Be sure to keep us posted,
OP, check out cronicrs thread "my 50 dollar adventure"

I just followed your link and that kit is a serious waste of time. Included in the kit are as follows: 1 bag of rye with self healing injection port 1 small bag of verm casing 1 small tent with some perlite 2 alcohol swabs 1 tree oyster syringe
Seriously this is a huge waste of time. Just look up a simple tek on here man, you won't regret it.

You can fruit off of rye if you case it with the verm, but for a whole pound of rye that is a little tiny bit of verm. Also, your yield will be greatly diminished.
BRF cakes are great, so look up the pf tek, and you could also mix your colonized rye with pasteurized hpoo or coco coir and lay trays or mix into a monotub. Possibilities are endless when you do the research and learn for yourself.

Did you do any research at all?
You CAN fuit from grain, 20 years ago it was the norm. Then it was discovered you get shitty fucking yields, and fruiting from grain is just all bad. No one does that

I do bag grows quite a bit, it's simple and for someone only looking to make a small amount it's not a bad option. I would spawn the 1lb of grain into 5lbs of hpoo in a mycobag. Wait for it to fully colonize then case it. Can fruit directly in the bag and get decent results or take the cake out and place in SGFC. If you're wanting to keep to a bag that would probably be your best bet.

Trickyricky217, how much on average do you yield on bag grows?

Hard to say, varies from grow to grow on a variety of factors but if I had to put an average on it I would say an ounce dry weight. Keep in mind though this is just to put a number on it like you ask, it could be better or worse.
