Do you use desiccants to store mush?

I recently checked on my jar of mushrooms that I stored a month ago, it was wrapped tightly in a sandwich bag in a mason jar. I had dehydrated them for at least 24 hours at 95F in my Nesco food dehydrator until the stems cracked in half with little resistance. I didn't think desiccants were necessary, because they were already dry so I just stored them away. Now when i grabbed the bag of mushies, I noticed that the stems were softer and not rigid and stiff when I first stored them. I'm thinking they were affected by the tiny bit of moisture in the jar and I should've thrown a few silica packets in there. This really sucks, I hope the potency wasn't affected too much. Maybe next time I'll vacuum seal the mushies, that seems to work for a lot of people. Has anybody had any similar problems storing their mushies?

Yes. I use them for that reason exactly.
Grab yourself something like http://www.amazon.com/Uline-Silica-Gel-Dessicants-Pack/dp/B00FUA5C8K/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1435164427&sr=8-4&keywords=food+grade+desiccant
Toss one in the bag and don't lose anymore sleep over that step of cultivation. Shitting your pants 50 feet from the finish line of a marathon is no fun. Neither is opening a mason jar to see molded mushrooms because the old Nesco didn't do the job.
You really want to get crazy...http://www.amazon.com/Oxy-Sorb-Oxygen-Absorbers-Storage-100-Pack/dp/B0028AG8RO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435164647&sr=8-1&keywords=oxygen+absorbers+for+food+storage
But it really is not required.

Yeah, I use them. I have five or six floating around and I dehydrate them with my mushies and toss them all in my stash.
You can dehydrate at a higher temperature too FYI. I run mine at 165.

The 5 gram packets are a great investment.
I recently purchased these from Amazon. Amazon is KING!
Before I use the dehydrator on a harvest I fan dry for 24 hours. All this does is help the fruits shrink a bit so I can arrange the fruits more evenly in the dehydrator.

I doubt they were even 100% dry when you stored them. I dehydrate my mushies at 140-160f for 24 hours and sometimes the real big ones are still not done. A good way I like to check is feeling toward the cap, give it a light squeeze.

Yeah i just purchased some silica gels from amazon, they should be here by friday. I hope the mushies i harvested recently haven't lost too much potency. It's gonna be harder to dose next time i trip. I might just say fuck it and take 7 grams.

I use an air tight glass jar after they're cracker dry so that I don't have to fuck with desiccants and they stay good for over 6 months if not years.

Yeah I just want a solid level 3 or 4 trip. Tired of taking small ass doses that don't give any visuals. I'm gonna make some strong tea soon.

This right here. Every one of you that's having to use desiccants is simply not drying them enough.
OP, 95 is not the temperature you dry mushrooms at. I do 160 for 12 hours and sometimes some of them are still not done.
The ones that ARE done, are still done months later, still all cracker dry. Also I live in a pretty humid area so nobody try and bust out that excuse, got it?

Let's not pretend that nobody will try and pull that out and paint it as a reasoning to their strange strange ways.
