Contamination or bruising?
    #21849673 - 06/24/15 10:02 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I started fruiting a dub tub about week ago, and I have this spot on one that I can't tell if it's just bruised or contaminated. It started out as just the blueish green color and now it it is starting to get some white in the middle. Is it bad or just bruised mycelium trYing to heal itself? I'd post a picture bit I've been trying to get it to work for a half hour and can't seem to get it to upload

trich. Dump the substrate outside and hope it recovers outdoor.

Even though it started dark and then turned white? I thought trich went the other way around?

It does go the other way around. That's very interesting! On first glance it looks trichy, but upon further investigation I'm going to say it looks bruised and is recovering. I don't see the typical powdery trich look. Could just sprinkle salt all over it for this nice flush to fill in. What variety? PE? KSSS?

That's mold. Get it out of your house, let it finish outside if you can.

If you really must, you can salt it like Mads said, and let it finish.

It's thiland Lipa yai, and I took it out. How do I put it outside? Leave it in the tub or throw it on the ground?

Leave it in the tub. How's your climate?

Good deal! I pulled all the big pins (85 grams!) Just in case it doesn't pan out, I'll keep everyone updated though!

You probably didn't need to. It's a small contamination. You just want the spores out of the house. It won't stop and ruin your flush.

Trich when it gets bad enough will actually eat fruiting bodies. Trichoderma parasitizes cubensis.

Luckily his infection isn't all that bad. It may or may not even be trichoderma. There are plenty of similar looking molds, and it's not the clearest picture.

Okay, I also have a fully colonized jar that has a chunk on top that just won't recolonize since I shook it, is it junk?

That jar doesn't look healthy. I wouldn't use it.

The salt seriously made it like a thousand times worse, it just sucked moisture right to it aND made it spread. I still have one healthy tub though and a healthy jar!

Harsh. That's quite shitty. I still much prefer salt to cutting out contaminations in subs because you can spread a huge number of spores through your home cutting it out. However, I always just toss when I see a contamination these days. Not worth the risk. Plus I got so much going on anyway. Good to know that it was contaminated. Also luckily you got more going  good luck on those ones!

After I posted that it pretty much stopped spreading and I pulled 300 wet grams off the 2 bad tubs and another 300 off the good one! Hopefully the second flush goes well
