First Outdoor Grow Redux

This outdoor grow consists of 7 spent subs from a previous indoor grow (B+ and Huatla) and 4 freshly colonized B+ subs that were tossed after a close friend got knocked by the Po-Po's. Long story short, it turns out the charges against said friend aren't as serious as one would expect and the snitch-o-meter is close to nil. So, I'm seeing what I can squeeze out of this.
Anyways, the latest subs had recently been put into fruiting conditions and consisted of a basic makeup of 5 qt spawn, 1 brick coir and 2 qt verm. I dug these out of the trash this evening and mixed them in. They were in there for a day or so.
The previous 7 spent subs consisted of the same.
Initially, the outdoor patch contained 7 subs, 1.5 bags of Black Kow and 1.5 bags of organic potting soil. It'd been going for about two weeks.
Hope y'all enjoy.
(Sorry for the photo quality. I was in a hurry, tired and in slight ninja mode. Better ones to come.)

God only knows!
The patch had been producing modestly at best. A dry o so far, at most.
When I flipped the sub to make room, it smelt sorta rotty.. I imagine it's just not draining as well as I'd hope. So, I'm going to use this long drill bit and drill through the sub and bottom of the container a few dozen more times.
I also left the leaf litter off.

I'd just dump it out of the tub onto the ground in a shady spot. I've never used anything to cover my beds, just kept them from drying out. In my non-tested, unscientific opinion the more FAE the better.

I hear ya.
I keep it covered and contained to keep out the insects and stuff. I need to replace the plastic with netting, for sure.

After seeing others' results I can't say using a covering is bad (check THIS out!) but I haven't needed to use one yet. After seeing that pic, though, I'm rethinking my outdoor methods. I like the breathable bed sheet idea.
Yes, the critters can be bad. The chipmunks have found every acorn and hickory nut in my manure. The damage isn't too bad and the nuts seem to be mostly gone - I hope.
Now I have ants, which can be really bad. If they're mycelium eaters they could destroy my bed. Time to get some borax and boric acid from Wally-Mart. At least the deer aren't walking through my bed this year.

Thats pretty damn awesome. Thanks for that.
I'd noticed some ants and stuff in the bed before adding the plastic. Anyways, holes were cut in it last night. So , we'll see how it goes.

Snapped a few photos today of the progress, including some closeups of the mycelium growth. Let me know if there are signs that indicate some tweaking is needed.
I've considered mixing in straw.. but I've given this sub hell already.
What do y'all think?

Hey y'all. Work has been hell and life has been complicated.. so I've totally been slacking on my updates. Also sorry for not responding to PM's and posts on this thread. Fuck stress and dickwads. Anyways..
I was just about ready to give up on this grow.. well, I had, but remembered coffeehead suggesting I just flip the entire thing onto the ground. I did that and about a week later things started to pick up. Thanks, coffeehead! Up to that point, there was absolutely NOTHING growing and things were STANK. Bummer, fo'sho.
Fruit numbers were really light at first, but the last 3 days or so have shown a marked increase. I'm harvesting about 2-3 decent handfuls a day and I expect it might pickup soon. I've gone from watering maybe once a week (in tub) to about everyday since dumping it. I guess my only complaint is the fruits dry to a really small size and are butt-ass ugly. Oh well, they make for a nice powder.

I'm also just about finished prepping my grain jars for a super mondo mono grow. I also have two B+ monos in fruiting conditions now.
Cheers, y'all. Thanks for keeping up.

Thanks, y'all.
I added a light fresh layer or potting soil and manure because chunks of substrate were showing and drying out. We'll see how that works out.

Doesn't really seem it but I'm in Canada so our weather is not to nice. Plus a bunch of stoned rabbits and chipmunks running around.. I do have alot of space And that could be funnybut it just get so damn cold some nights.
