some say that rye is better to case because of it water retention and wbs is better for spawn because small size equals more inoculation points. i tend to agree with it.

Yeah, the water retention makes sense. I find that the millet seeds being so small can get dry during the later stages of running its spawn in the jar. Not that millet isnt good, just drys out.
Thanks for your opinion, im just contemplating on changing my routine for some maybe better less hindered results

how would one keep the millet at the optimum moisture level?
would a bottom casing layer help?

Trust me - millet is the best substrate around - higher yields, bigger healthier mushrooms and nicer potency. Rye isnt bad - as are most grains substrates, but millet is the best - I was told when i started by many old school cultivators to use it and ive tried them all and they were right.
If you look at sporeworks you will see that all their great pics are grown off millet.

the closest thing to millets greatness would be straw right?

I heard that staw is not dense (gee duh) and has little goodies for the mushrooms to eat while....finch seed with a high ammont of lillet is dense and full of goodies(nutrients)

I am trying WBS for the first time , and I think it will be nicer then BRF
plus this is my first time casing

I figure by chirtmas day I should see pins....I hope:)

i found a WBS mix that is mainly millet, but the other larger grains do help in retaining moisture and seem to be better ventilated,it's all about finding a balanve that works rof you i spose.
