Habitat: Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc. Found in manure/hay pile. Zone 2-3 in Canada.
Gills: Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc. gills are black and attached
Stem: Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc. long, skinny, white outside and brown inside, fibery, and hollow
Cap: Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc. inky cap look but no visible disintegration, texture is smooth
Spore print color: Very important! dark. Either jet black or very dark purple.
Bruising: Color that the mushroom bruises, if any. none
Other information: Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

Panaeolus semiovatus var. phalaenarum
It's supposed to be decent, I've never had it so I can't say 100% on that

Hey everyone just curious if these shrooms I just found are liberty caps. I know that they probably arent but theyre growing on the roots of grass just after a pretty big rainstorm just came in. Information that the pictures wont give is that tey dont really smell like anything, bruise kind of purple-brown but only if I basically pinch it. Photos:

Not liberty caps. Compare to Conocybe apala.

I think I see an annular zone of veil remnants in the rightmost specimen in pictures 4 and 5.
I see these in almost every pile of horseshit, they're very prolific. Most of them have an annulus, but there are certain patches without. Might be var. phalaenarum.

Interesting to know. Good info guys . I do see veil remnants on basically every mushroom. So can I just assume they're all just P. semiovatus?
If they are just P. semiovatus, I read on Wikipedia that its ediblity is unknown. What are your thoughts?

I personally probably wouldn't bother eating them. If you try, please give a report, and perhaps a recipe.

Hello community, I found this mushroom growing in some mulch in my backyard in connecticut and i cant seem to find any species online to resemble it. It doesnt have gills but instead underneath the cap is a redish orange. If the cap is flicked even the slightest it turns dark purple. The stipe also bruises blue very easily. When I cut the stipe the inside is a distinct blue-purple. It is brownish red. Its also early July if that helps to identify. Thank you
