Mixed Panaeolus with Equador...
    #21842789 - 06/22/15 06:49 PM (9 years, 6 months ago)

Anyone ever see someone give this a shot?

I'm sure its been done, but I couldn't find any grow logs with mixed mushies.  Let me know if you find one.

This is 5 days growing on the pasteurized straw and it's going great, you can easily see the whispy cottony Panaeolus vs the stringy white Equador.  I have one tin of Panaeolus, one Equador, and then this mixed one pictured here.

I did an experiment by inoculating a jar with Venezuelan and B+. It seems to be going well, although I'm not sure if the Vene spores germinated, I guess we will have to see after this tub is in fruiting stage.

Ive seen it a couple times way back but usually one species will take over, usually the Cube because of its aggressiveness. But ive seen them fruit together just nothing big on yeilds a few Pans pop with the rest cubes.

Good luck and itll be really nice if you get a bunch of pans to grow along side,I hope to see it turn out for you.

They are different species. I'd imagine they won't cooperate.

#5 Psilocybe cubensis (Cubes)

Psilocybe cubensis can contaminate Panaeolus cyanescens (and allies) cultivations and more rarely other species.  The reasons are the same as with oyster contamination (see #3 above) with the additional factor of spores intentionally or mistakenly mislabeled (both species have dark spores so the spore prints are visually similar)

Interestingly, trays of fully colonized Panaeolus can produce a normal flush of Panaeolus mushrooms before becoming overwhelmed by Cubensis mycelium and fruiting cubensis for the 2nd and following flushes.  This generally happens when both species are grown in close proximity and the grow area is loaded with free cubensis spores.  It appears that the Panaeolus colonized substrate is selective for cubensis colonization.  This hints at the possibility of sequential use of manure based substrates.

Although Cubensis contamination is common, pictures are almost always of one species or the other.  Currently I am only able to find one good Shroomery posted picture showing both species growing in the same container.  The two pictures on the right are from the thehawkseye and mycotopia.  If I find more Shroomery posted pictures I will replace the the offsite ones.

Pans don't look like pans

Rogue mushrooms

Cubensis instead of Oysters

Since you're not using poo, your Pans likely won't fruit. I'd let it go and case it and hope for the best.
