$800 a month to eat out and 340 to have the house cleaned twice???

I make much more per hour than my cleaners.  The time that I would have spent cleaning the house is spent working (at a higher income rate).  The result is a net monetary gain.  I'm curious how that is bat shit nuts?

Yeah, people don't realize it but it costs you a fortune over a long period. The same ones who are doing this will be broke later down the road. Then they will tell everyone it was bad luck. People with huge incomes manage to squander every dime and live paycheck to paycheck. Millionaires become destitute the same way. Take mikey Jackson for example. He made up to $100m per year but died broke and in debt.

Its not JUST that though. sure EVERYONE eats out. But there are the people that dont realise how much they actually spend on shit like that. Doesnt matter how much money some people have, they are just terrible with it and spend up to the utmost limit.

Eating out adds up fucking hella quick!  If I am really managing my money I never eat out.  making eggs on a bagel costs pennies in comparison and fils you up

$800 a month to eat out and 340 to have the house cleaned twice??? That is bat shit nuts. Even if you make $100,000 a year its not a good idea and many in this thread make a whole lot less. This is why so many people never get out of poverty, never really get into the middle class or never move up, period.

A great ship can sink from many small leaks. What happens when the good times are over and hard times come? Where is the money you could have put aside or invested in something that would improve your life or make more money for you? It was all thrown out the window and the opportunity was lost. Good times never last forever, if you are just barely treading water now, it could be very bad later.

Wise up now, eat at home, brown bag it at work, do it yourself or shop around. You can save many times 50% of the cost of an item by shopping around and with google you have no excuse not to. When you have money left, do not think what you will run out and spend it on. Put it in the bank instead. Buy a home instead of renting. 30 years of paying rent brings you nothing but a higher rent bill to pay today. Paying a mortgage for 20 or 30 years means you own it and no more rent to pay.

Very sobering words, Stone.  I must say that you are a man wise beyond your age (I am assuming that you are young).  Indeed.  800 dollars a month for eating out?  Some people can actually almost live on that amount a month.

I know that if I had some extra 800 dollars lying around, I would put it down towards my "condo-buying" fund.

Stone how much do you spend on non-essential stuff in a month?

>Stone how much do you spend on non-essential stuff in a month?

I get 2 newspapers, I suppose one would do but I don't watch tv so its a cheap luxury. Plus I get dollars off coupons which more than pay for the extra subscription in a year.

I smoke a lot of pot, I need it for medicinal reasons more than kicks. I get it really cheap. I eat dark chocolate which costs a whopping $5 at trader joes for 1/2 kilo. Its good for health too but there may be cheaper ways to get the cocoa. Sometimes I buy junk I don't really need but I've cut back on that. I was paying money for language practice to maintain fluency. Is that a non essential or a good investment?

I'm thinking hard trying to come up with more. The thing is, if I identity something non essential that I don't actually crave then I usually eliminate it eventually. If I do crave something then I try to kick the addiction. I was hooked on pastries, and sweets but kicked it and lost a lot of weight years ago. If anything I should spend more, I deny myself too much. But if I need money for something its never a problem. An interesting coincidence, don't you think?

Alcohol for me. I spend probably about $200 a month on beer but I drink the fine quality shit.

At the moment I'm trying to get all my bills paid off so I try not to spend too much on anything else
