trying to fruit, but mycelium keeps colonising casing
    #21844787 - 06/23/15 05:32 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Im trying to fruit, but mycelium keeps colonising casing. Im worried that the casing will be over-colonised and fail to produce fruits. Im using a coir/verm casing.
I have put the tray into fruiting conditions 5 days ago.
Temperature is approx. 20 Deg celsius, and Im using a bed of perlite for humidity. The fruiting chamber has plenty of water droplets forming around the inside, and the casing has very small water droplets on it. Any tips to get them to fruit?

If you're growing cubes, a casing is not necessary so an over colonised casing will still fruit.
When you introduce the tray to fruiting conditions, colonisation should stop so it sounds as though your fruiting conditions might be inadequate. Are you using a shotgun fruiting chamber?

Yes, it is a plastic container I bought at a homeware store.
Also I havent yet drilled holes for air exchange. At the moment, I am opening the lid and fanning 3 times a day

ok you just need to get those holes drilled and you'll have mushies in no time  fresh air exchange is vital for mycelium to stop colonising, and start fruiting. Also make sure to drill holes on the bottom of the container, and elevate it off whatever it's sitting on.
Good luck

I'm guessing you are doing cakes?

Did you let them consolidate for a 3-7 days after they were 100 % ? Doing that insures the middle of the cake is colonized as well.

Did you dunk them in water for 24 hours? This rehydrates the myc.

After the dunk you need to roll them in vermiculite. You don't need to use coir.

Pinning is caused by a number of things. One of them in air exchange. In which you don't have. You have to follow the TEK's if you want something to work. You need to use the search funtion and look up    "SGFC" as well as " Pinning Triggers" . Not everyone is going to spell it out for you man.

EDIT: Also include photos next time.

Good luck

You may have a "stroma" strain, such as Peurto Rican, Red Boy, Transkei, ?Stropharia? which aggressively continues to colonize even under fruiting condition.  It should fruit anyway, as the casing still provides a low nutrition pinning surface and and a worthless substrait to rip out when harvesting.  I've some weird pins come from deep in the casing that I suppose were formed then colonized over, but they pushed through just fine.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister.  I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave.  I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent.
Triggered yet?

Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."

No, this does not look right...

It'll colonize the casing if you used a nutritious sub in your casing layer i.e "Coir"

Next time just go with some jiffy mix! (peat moss & vermiculite)
Also adjust the ph of your casing to 7-7.5Ph

:goodluck:

the reason your casing is getting colonized is because you havent yet introduced fea. youve just been fanning your tub. if you want to fruit you have to let air be available to the sub 24 hours a day. leave the lid off and mist a few more times a day than you already are if you cant make a proper fruiting chamber. put the lid on at night before you go to sleep as you cant mist while sleeping.

the casing will help keep humidity high at surface level. just make sure it doesn't dry out too much.

after reading cronicr's grows with no fruiting chamber i have been doing this same thing for the past month with success.
