Hey guys my first post here was just wondering if you could help identify my first ever mushy pick, they appear slightly damaged and old but after squeezing the stem it has a slightly bluish/dark purple colour this usually indicates they are safe?? Habitat: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Found in soul in a damp forest Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.
Gills: dark yellowy/brown colour Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.
Stem: about 3 cm long, dark brown colour Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.
Cap: about 5 cm long Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.
Spore print color: Can't actually really see any spores Very important!
Bruising: Appeared to bruise blue/dark purple Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

There are some very toxic species in the genus Cortinarius, and there are some that are edible. Many of the species are hard to identify, if possible at all. The genus is perhaps the largest of the gilled fungi, and not very well researched yet.

As to which species and their eventual toxicity I'm not the right person to tell, perhaps someone more familiar with the Australasian species could elaborate more on this.
