Slow Release Organic Ferts using Water Absorbing Polymer

So I had an idea of using these water absorbing polymer crystals and an organic liquid nute concentrate to make a slow release fertilizer for potted plants and so far it seems to be working wonders so I thought I'd share it with all you ladies and gents

These are the crystals that you can pick up online or in my case an indoor flea market. They absorb a ton of water and if you happen to have a liquid fertilizer you can dilute it to whatever it says on the container and soak the polymer in it to create your own fertilizer releasing things.

This is what they look like after I soak em iny personal favorite organic fertilizers. It's made a huge difference with the plants that I ship out because I can just used the cold processed seaweed extract to make a solution and soak em in that and add that to the soil to minimize stress from being shipped. So yeah, hope this helps some of y'all in the future that decide to try this little trick. As always questions comments and suggestions are welcomed and greatly appreciated. Happy planting everybody!

Neat idea.

The question is, why?
Most fertilizers can't immediately be used by plants until the micro organisms in the soil can break them apart, or even slower by the roots.
I could see this working great for synthetic fertilizers, but most organic fertilizers probably not as much.

You are 100% correct, in essence I made a slower-slow release fertilizer that also prevents extensive water loss there by regulating the breakdown of the nutes into nitrates since the plants are in the mail for days at a time without water. Thank you for pointing that out, good call.

It also decreases the amount of nutrient solution waste due to wash through since the polymer holds it in one spot until it releases it.

Still, interesting concept! Flesh it out some more and you'll be on to something, I'm sure.

Definitely, I'll also post the results of it's use with my trade secret "Miracle Soil" that's made an ASTOUNDING difference with my Peganum harmala seeds and seedlings. It started out as a Trichocereus cactus seed starting soil then I saw how well much faster my harmala was growing than compared to industry organic soils so I'm starting to do research on its use with other plants. The goal is to be able to market it with my business partner who is one of the Shroomery's supporters/vendors.

Here are a couple pics of the P. harmala seedling differences. The black pots were filled with the Miracle Soil and the other pots were organic soil from a well know company and the ground was filled with organic garden soil from a different well known company.

Another cool thing I've noticed is that I've yet to have a cobweb mold problem on the Miracle Soil when growing cacti seeds as compared to regular soil. Not sure if it's coincidence or because of the ingredients of the soil.

So.....what's the recipe for your Miracle Soil?

Oh a little of this, little of that lol. It takes a lot of ingredients to make just a small batch, but that's the only hint you'll get outta me my friend

-Update-
The crystals seem to disintegrate if left out in the sun... However, the ones I placed in pots are doing their job of slowly releasing water.

Why not just add kelp meal to the soil? It should probably be an ingredient in your mysterious trade secret "Miracle Soil" anyways.
It's slow release, and if you are soaking the crystals in kelp extract, it'll provide the same if not better feeding.

That's true, I was just experimenting with some things to see how it turned out and if it would provide any extra benefits. It definitely help out the plants I have outside in small pots as it helps reduce so much water loss.
