Distilled Water & Agar

I've FINALLY gained the motivation and bought some dry LME and some agar. I am about to order some petris and parafilm (I think that's what it's called) but have some questions;
My question is about the distilled water... Why does the search engine fail me when I look for a way to distill my own water?..
It failed again when I asked if I can use bottled or boiled water in an agar recipe instead of distilled.
So guys, help me out. I can't imagine spending money, gas, and time going out a buying distilled water. Like wtf? But if that's what everyone else does I guess its best I come to terms with it sooner than later.
If there's anything else you suggest as far as agar recipe ingredients go let me know. You guys have been nothing but amazing when it's come to quick and smart advice. Thanks so much.

Umm. Just use tap water bro.
250ml tap water, 5g agar, 5g lme. Pc and pour. Scale to 500ml if you're doing a whole sleeve.

I use tap water. You'll be sterilizing the agar anyway.
Distilling your own water is a whole process unto itself. Its not hard to do, but it does take a little bit of equipment.

This was my second thought. I haven't looked up the process of making an agar mix yet but I figured at some point you PC it.
However, all these recipes call for distilled water so I thought maybe tap or bottle water had to many minerals like fluoride and whatnot that would cause less than ideal results.
Once these dishes come in I'll look up a good tek, in the meantime does anyone recommend an agar prep Tek? This is all new to me.

Search for "No pour agar tek"
That should get you pointed in the right direction.

You can't do no pour with petri dishes.
250ml water, 5g agar, 5g lme. Stir and pc. Agar is pretty simple.
Use a quart jar with polyfill or a sfd or any old bottle will work.
Pour when its still hot but not too hot to hold, the end.

I personally have well water. I bought a distiller for drinking the gross well water. I have done agar on the well water by accident more than a few times, and it works out great. I just have a distiller so it makes sense to use it. Pretty damn easy to maintain too.
Mine is a boiler that boils it for awhile then sends it through a coconut charcoal filter. That's the distiller process. Just gotta change the filter every couple months and use descaler on the boiler to keep it clean

For some organisms sure. I haven't seen anything to suggest chlorinated or otherwise treated water has any effect on the growth of mushroom species. I use tap water all the time.

I won't use water I won't drink. I drink tap water only when I have to. A filter does wonders.

Does this method have a name? It sounds pretty simple and I have the materials to make SFDs as well as plenty of qt jars.
Where does the SFD/polyfill come into play?
Once it is mixed and PC'ed do I pour from the jar into the petri dishes inside an SAB?

You can use an existing grain jar lid. Polyfill or sfd.
If you use another bottle you just stuff polyfill tight in the neck.
Pour while hot but not too hot in a sab or in front of a hood. There's no tek name, that's just agar.
Maybe pour agar.

Ok. I'm sorry but I still don't understand the function of the SFD/polyfill lids when it come to PC'ing agar.
When colonizing grains they provide a filter for GE. So when using a jar as an agar pouring container/beaker what's the purpose?
Also while searching on my free time I haven't found any agar teks directed towards using petris. They are mainly "no pour teks."
Are petris not ideal anymore or is it just that people don't like pouring? As far as cutting wedges and storing, petris seem much more ideal than small glass jars or plastic containers.
What are you're guy's thoughts?

The polyfill is to merely filter air as the pressure inside your container changes.

Thank you!
It seems the method I have in mind to pour these dishes is similar to the "Agar Bottle Tek." But I still can't find a good thread. It seems they are all over the place and not very specific when in comes to materials.
It sounds like:
1. Measure LME, Agar powder, and water
2. Mix thoroughly in pot with hot water until all is dissolved
3. Pour into glass bottle (Crown Royal bottle in my case)
4.** PC glass bottle ********
5. Let cool
6. Pour dishes inside an SAB
****Question; It sounds like the Glass Bottle is exchangeable with the qt jar. The qt jar will have a filtered hole for pressure change but unless I find a way to make a hole, the Glass Bottle will not have a hole for pressure change.
The Glass Bottle seems like it would be easier to pour from but without a filtered hole for pressure change would it shatter at 15psi in a PC?

Most glass can survive 15psi

All this could be answered with fucking Youtube videos. Search more.
People only do no-pour agar out of laziness.
