Made some decent art tonight with charcoal for the first time in a while. "Rough draft"

Hey shroomites I love to draw, paint etc but I haven't been able to use them much. The drawing I made tonight is "okay", it looks better in person. There is a lot of intricacy in this piece, took me 3 or 4 hours but basically this was a rough draft of the design I'll eventually draw. I'm trying to make the alien head more like the asgards in staff are. Except a bit different

I know these aren't professional or even skilled drawings but I'm just getting into it so take it easy on the critique.
Honest though for artists here, how do you like it and how can I improve?

Yeah that was the kind of feeling I got after drawing it. I need to make a finished version with the patterns, making things symmetrical, add color. It has a long way to go but I was wondering if I had something decent to work off of and make much cooler.

bigger is always better. a bigger slate to work in, would make your art stand out more, for it is very geometric in it's composition, so there is a lot of space to look at, and the empty space in the work gives more weight to what's around it, but so little space, means so little of itself to compare it to.

That's a great idea, my main problems including fitting everything in getting prescise detail that's noticeable but still having negative space to balance. I gave to get a bigger canvas.
Thanks akira =)

you're totally welcome. with charcoal, you'll just get that much more detail in like that. everyone starts small, but either way, cool stuff man. keep on rockin' in the free world.

Boring Advice: Redraw that 100 more times, it'll refine itself, you'll refine your brain to reality skill and in general learn more in general
Semi-Boring Advice: Copy other people's work. I hate copying but in the beginning stages of becoming an artist it is kind of necessary because the trail other people blaze are filled with advice and technique.
Fun advice: Do what ever the fuck you want.
As far as the actual piece was posted, I wish the picture quality was better and the lines used to create the image were finer---resharpen your pencil very often.
