Why are such A-Holes towards Shrooms? And why are people so afraid and reluctant to take Shrooms?

It doesn't make any sense to me. These people claim that they're so smart since they don't take any mind altering substances but really they are just so stupid in my opinion. When they're not constantly going on and on like a broken record how they're friends took shrooms and they ended up dying or in the hospital or some bull-crap like that, THAT CANNOT ACTUALLY HAPPEN!!! They are laughing at us like a bunch of douchbags and saying how we're going to ruin our lives, have fun begging for change under a freeway overpass, and a bunch of other crap that makes no sense. If they were so smart, they would do some research and know that Magic Mushrooms are possibly one of the greatest thing that came straight from the Earth and have a very low chance of actually hurting you!
Whew! Okay I'm done ranting. But seriously can someone please shed some light on this?

A century's worth of anti drug propaganda has that effect. People are ignorant and fearful because that is what has been taught to them. You can't really blame the individual but instead you should blame the system.

^ This. I don't blame people for their uneducated thoughts, I just try to educate people where I can, where it matters. There have been events involving people taking mushrooms who were mentally unstable, and they ended up in a bad way. This does not reflect poorly on the substance, but the individual. It's the same thing as far as gun control goes in my opinion, but I won't even get into that.

Yet common sense is thrown out the window by brainwashed, news watching zombie minds, focused about reproduction and possessions. it's just the majority.

My grandma works at a hospital and the other day while filing charts she read about a person hospitalized for being an idiot on mushrooms and the picture of him was with a huge ear-to-ear coolaid smile.

I bet he had a great story to tell, after they strapped him to a bed and barbiturated him out

My family think I've gone nuts because I take mushrooms, in fact my sister gave me a massive lecture on them even though she has never tried them. She shut up when I pointed out she does in fact do drugs in the form of smoking and alcohol (in fact I think she has a drink problem, uses it to self medicate due to her stressful job).
I can kind of see where they are coming from though, I would have never touched them if I hadn't read an article on a yoga site and was fascinated by it. It's easy to get brainwashed by the "drugs are bad" mantra.
