Monotropa uniflora cultivation

Perhaps slightly off topic here, but the ghost plant, or indian pipe.  Anyone tried cultivating it? Apparently it utilizes nutrients made available by saprotrophic fungi, usually Armillaria.  Anyway, I've potted some up and just wondering if anyone has any pointers.  Keep the fungal symbiont healthy -->> keep the ghost plant healthy... Thats kind of as far as I've gotton so far.

According to this study
http://nature.berkeley.edu/brunslab/papers/bidartondo2001c.pdf
Monotropa uniflora forms a parasitic relationship with russula and lactarius species of fungi. Which are in turn mycorrhizal with specific species of plants.

So you'd need to start by cultivating the host plants and mycorrhizal fungi (which as far as I know is extremely difficult/not yet possible, at least indoors.)

Other than the fact that they are really cool organisms, is there a practical reason to try growing monotropa? food? medicine?

No, I don't know about practical reasons... I just thought it might be a fun project. It is apparently edible, but I've never eaten it.  I stumbled across some in the woods the other day and it piqued my curiosity.  Striking little people in any case.
