Has anybody had any success in MA or New England for that matter? Someobody who hunts for edible mushrooms told me anything above Connecticut you aren't going to find any psychedelic mushrooms and if you do, few and far between.

I have no idea what happens in your part of the world but a quick search(I really just read the forum rules) led me to this:
Massachusetts: Gymnopilus junonius Gymnopilus luteus Panaeolus cinctulus
Those seem to be your options. I'd use the search engine/google and mushroomobserver.org to look to see if any finds come from your area. I'd then look at the times of year these were happening and then I'd start plotting some areas to look at.

Looking at this, then checking listed species from the bordering states gives me the impression that there possibly could be quite a few species that are as yet officially unregistered from his region.

These people probably don't find it worthwhile looking for actives in the first place, thus overlooking them, and finding them more or less only by accident. You will probably have to do a bit of work to find what you're looking for, though.

Yes, this. States are just imaginary lines, the mushrooms don't regard them the same way we do.

Being a Hunter from the Boston area, I can confirm it's pretty tough finding out there. My best recommendation is read up on Gyms for the Spring and Fall while Pan Cincts are the Summer one.
It's pretty dry up here this year, which is another reason there's been not much growth this year. I've been hunting a few times here and there in the fields, and I'm not even seeing Foes around.
Edit: I've been searching for ovoideocystidiata for 2 years now, and it seems they just don't fruit around my area.
Who knows, maybe you could be the one to find them here!

Ovoids can be found during spring in states that are on the southern border of Mass. Caerulipes have been found in the foothills of states to the northern and western borders. Forest habitats have no idea where the state boundaries are, they will grow right across these imaginary lines. Just do some research on the habitats and indicator plants that these species prefer and then get out and search your area to see if these habitats exhist near you.

Well, there is a chance they just don't fruit in your specific area.
Similarly where I live, you just won't find Calocybe gambosa, even if it is a common enough mushroom in most of my small country.

The best way, I think, would be to go searching closer to the nearest area where they are known to fruit. Once you get the hang of a certain species preferences, seeing this irl, it suddenly becomes much easier to target them later.
Perhaps go on a few weekend hikes in New York or Connecticut, and when you find them, you try to trace them as far back towards your own state as they will possibly grow (or you're able to find them).
