Rehydrating a monotub?
    #21839064 - 06/21/15 08:28 PM (9 years, 6 months ago)

Okay so I'm going to pick my first flush soon and I wanna know what is the best method to get a solid second flush. I've read conflicting information about the length of time to dunk a monotub. Some people never dunk their tubs and just mist heavily and wait for pins. I'm not sure what to do. I was thinking about dunking for an hour, as the sub would probably be hydrated to the max at this point. How do you guys go about getting a good second flush?

Also, would applying a casing layer(straight verm) to an uncased tub for the second flush be a good idea? I figured the microclimate created by the verm would initiate pin formation faster.    :filosoraptor:

Uhhh, no.

Harvest first flush, let sit 48 hours or so, then mist heavily (but not too much).
Then wait for your next flush:shrug:

If it's second flush the pins should already have formed. Some of the tiny dormant ones already there will start growing when the flush starts so be sure to leave those behind when you harvest your first flush.

If you want to dunk I usually fill the bottom with water and pour it out right away. Seems to be all that's necessary. Make sure there's enough air exchange for the excess moisture to evaporate afterward.

I hate dunking really. Over handling the sub, gotta make sure everything evaporates correctly, etc.

Misting is so much easier for me

I only dunk my subs if the 1st flush was particularly massive. Usually there is enough moisture in a properly prepped sub for a good two flushes.

When I do dunk, 2 or so hours is what I do. Sometimes a little more. You don't want to over do it. You can always mist heavily throughout the 2nd flush as well if it needs it, even after a good dunking.

I just put a small amount of water in on the side between the plastic and the sub. Not much though.

Do you leave the water there?

Yeah i just put a small amount there and it gets absorbed by the sub. Gone in a few hours

I have had success with injecting water.

After the second flush, I injected 120cc's of spring water (deer park, actually) in 12 spots (10ml per injection). The third flush was mainly small and thin but it was noticeable that around the injection sites the mushrooms grew much fatter/taller.

I believe it was the reason that the third flush happened at all. Already pulled two huge flushes and the cake had shrunk almost a finger width off the wall.

I've heard of a few other folks who do this. I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

I dont like to dunk cause its messy. I usually give a heavy mist. Sometimes I pour a lil water directly on the sub

Cool that's what I did, and I'm already starting to see new pins form :dancer:
