Yeah I didn't actually think it was possible, I actually thought that was a joke. Since, if you boiled it like you were supposed to first, it wouldn't be able to pop anyway.

Actually, im not sure about that. The "pop" is caused by water in the seed vaporizing and bursting out. I wonder if extra water in there would hinder that process....
Damn now I need to find some popcorn to experiment with.

Well, I've never had it happen but I also didn't do much popcorn since it sucked.

Yes extra water keeps it from popping. Popcorn can only pop if it is in a very narrow moisture content range. They store and dry it until it is in that range, then package and sell.
The more you know......

Yeah but if you were to heat it up to 15PSI then tank the pressure... that could change the rules. The pressure differential would shock vaporize the water, even in the soaked kernels. I just dont know if the softened seed coat would change the way it reacts to that. And I have no clue AT ALL what the resulting popcorn would look like (I know flash popped normal popcorn ends up more or less spherical, but these soaked seeds would be... odd)

I think it's safe to assume that it would be a big squishy mess, no matter the result.

I've used popcorn many times, especially in my beginning stages as a cultivator. I have NEVER haf popcorn pop on me in the jar EVER.
I have microwave popper bowl. If I so much as wipe it out with water and try to use it to pop popcorn without it being completely dry, I get shitty results.

If picking it up at a regular store is an issue, Brown Rice is a decent choice @ 66c/lbs. Supposedly it produces more portent mushrooms, but it can be touchy to prepare. I burst a whole pot accidentally, but it shook apart after the PC run and was fine anyway.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Who said it brown rice produces more potent fruits? That is total speculation.

Deep, deep, moria deep in one of the V-tek threads someone linked a research paper that said brown rice produced the most potent cubes.
I didn't read the paper, which is why I said supposedly. I feel like I've heard that bandied about elsewhere too.
I only suggested it as a cheap and reasonably nice grocery store grain to work with, in case any heroes out just got done reading the corn section of Omnivore's Dilemma and want to avoid their trip consisting of geometric arrays of kernels.

IIRC that paper was from the 70's and the researchers in question did not use an isolate for their experiment. Regardless many studies have been done that demonstrate that most fungi's ability to create alkaloids is dependent on their ability to convert nitrogen to triptamine and this is limited by genetics. In some species its also limited by the amount of zinc ions in the substrate. So the arguments that a certain substrate is higher in nitrogen therefore produce more potent fruits are neglecting the fact that much of it is simply not used.
I have run clones across many subs and not found any one to significantly produce more potent fruits. Bashing coir seems to be vogue lately but I have grown many potent fruits on coir. Ditto for most grains. Certainly i have yet to see any major difference between wheat, oats, rye, and millet.

The PC would have to be operating at 130+ psi for the kernel to explode simply from a release in pressure. In theory popcorn could pop in the PC if the PC ran out of water and the kernels hadn't been hydrated at all but I think whoever took the pic was simply trying to use already popped corn as spawn.

Yeah I think it was popped before it was put into the jar, and probably just for that picture.
