Jar sealed itself inside PC

Attempting to do my first WBS jar I followed TL tek
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=2&Number=16069543&PHPSESSID=&fpart=1#16069543
I even used his lid tek which is linked inside that post. When I opened my PC up the jar looked like this.

The SFD got pushed back and somehow some of the RTV was pushed around the rim and has sealed it closed. Anyone have any idea wtf I did wrong?

I can't really help you out here, but just curious to anyone else reading. Don't most WBS teks say that you should remove the black seeds from the mix?

It looks like you only applied the RTV from one side--try both. It also looks like it was blown off by you removing the PC lid before it was fully depressurized. Was that the case?
Most teks do say you should remove the sunflower seeds. I don't.

I let it depressureize over night so that wasn't the case. The tek I followed said to only put the RTV on the outside edge on the underside of the SFD. You think I should seal around the top too?
Also the tek I followed said there was no need to remove sunflower seeds, personal preference. I have some more soaking right now. Just doing one at a time until I get it right

No, forget what I said about the inside. I was being an idiot.
Did you score the lid around the hole at all?

No I didn't do that either because the tek didn't say too.
Could it have been because I ran out of water in the PC? When I opened it up it was bone dry

flip ur lid rubber side up, and score the tan part a bit around ur GE hole, then apply the RTV/silicone. it will stick better. RTV/silicone sticks way better to scored plastic lids though if ur going that route.

Maybe so. Or it could be that you sprung a leak somewhere, which caused the rapid decompression inside the jar and also dried everything out. That PC might be toast, though.

That was the problem IMO, the dry heat melted the seal on the lid. You may have warped the pc too which can cause a problem with the pc seal longevity.

Thanks for the advice I'm going to try and PC some BRF jars to see what happens hopefully it's not busted. The seal didn't look warped or broken and the PC it self didn't seem out of shape.

This.
Did you forget to turn the heat down after hitting full pressure? Use a bit of sand paper around the GE holes next time before applying RTV. No need to flip the lids over. Doing so provides an imperfect seal and it's better to have that sealed so the GE is forced to take place at the filter.

Some of those teks are outdated. Sunflower seeds contain lignin, good for mycelium consumption. I did an entire jar of black sunflower seeds and it colonized perfectly.

I must not have turned it down enough. I never really know how far to turn it down. I usually go from high to medium and let it go.
Just tried to bring it up to pressure and steam started coming out of the handle. Looks like I got an expensive large pot.

Whats the test for a warped pc guys? spin it on a flat surface? I think thats it. I warped a pc and kept having seal problems, its not always obvious visually. I needed to replace the seal every 20 runs I think the metal parts around the seal warped, and caused leaks when the seal ring shrank even a little.
I dunno exactly I gave up and went with AA

Mine is now leaking out of the handle. I might just go get a new one then try to fix it
