Maybe even more than 90% didn't own slaves in the south, but that's not a truth the race pimps want to acknowledge today, it's all about "the whites owned black slaves" which is complete bullshit.

who cares who owned slaves or not?  The confederate flag belongs to a country that was never really recognized, and hasn't existed for a very long time.  It is a symbol of a failed ideology.  It was used by an enemy of the United States in a war.  if you want to fly it on your property, by all means, go ahead. But it has no business being flown from a State building, unless that state is advocating a return to the days of the Civil War.

What do you think of President Obama using the "n-word"?  I know many blacks were very critical of him.

Also, FYI the MSM in the US has been covering this story non-stop, so don't tell me I'm pimping race issues.  Put CNN on in the US today and it's racial stories 24/7 and white people are racist, it's unreal.

If SC wants to take down the Confederate flag who cares?  I don't.

"who cares who owned slaves of not?"

That's a rather naive question, apparently many people do care, why not put it into proper historic perspective, only a very small minority (less than 5%) of southern whites owned slaves.

you are correct, i did not word that properly.
what i meant was: In the context of a debate about the confederate flag, of what relevance could percentage of slave ownership among southern whites possibly have?  Of course the percentage was small, slaves were very expensive and wealthy people are a small percentage of any population.
It's not surprising, in the same way that it is not surprising that only a small percentage of whites own yachts, or mansions, or planes.

there, better?

"slaves were very expensive and wealthy people are a small percentage of any population"

Very true, in fact the purchasing, housing, feeding, and health care of slaves became a horrible return on investment after the price of cotton came down, many slave owners simply wanted to keep them to boost their egos.

The Confederate flag was a battle flag used to distinguish one group from the other. It is well documented that almost none of the actual soldiers that waved that flag in battle EVER had slaves themselves. Most were fighting because they didn't like being told what to do and how to act....hence the term "Rebels." Many more were just caught up in something bigger than them...something that put them below a geographical line on a map.
That flag came to symbolize what they fought and died for..."each other"...brothers in arms. It retains meaning in "that". Soldiers in battle often just wind up fighting for the guy next to them....they are far removed from the politics of war....yet their relatives, over a century past should be allowed to honor them with that same flag.
I just recently visited a very small cemetery just outside of Petersburg, Va....with my dying father as one of his final wishes....He was born and raised very near it..Anyway, there were 103 Confederate soldiers buried in this tiny graveyard and 1 Union soldier...(lol, said he got lost). These men didn't die because they wished to own another human being...they died for each other...and, should be allowed have that flag fly over them.
They were no different than the boys that fought and died in the Vietnam war....They weren't fighting because they were afraid Communism was sweeping and taking over the world....they fought because they had to and for their brothers in arms. They honor that stars and stripes today and place the flag on graves of friends who died.:sunny::peace:

Haven't read thru the thread to see if anyone posted it already, but this seemed interesting.

In 1863, as the editor of the Savannah Morning News, William Thompson proposed a design that would ultimately become the Confederacy's second national flag, which would come to be known as the "Stainless Banner".
Referring to the flag's design as "The White Man's Flag", Thompson praised its design, as well as stating:
"As a people we are fighting to maintain the Heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause. ... As a national emblem, it is significant of our higher cause, the cause of a superior race, and a higher civilization contending against ignorance, infidelity, and barbarism. Another merit in the new flag is, that it bears no resemblance to the now infamous banner of the Yankee vandals."
—William T. Thompson (1863)

Don't try and put words in my mouth Sophist, I tend to choose my words carefully before I post here.  I have never been nor will I ever be a "white supremicist".  The notion (to me) is laughable.  You're basically saying that EVERY white man of fighting form living below the Mason-Dixon was a racist.  And while that may be super convenient for you to say; its a far cry at best, a dull platitude at the least.

You don't have to be a white supremacist to front for white supremacists, and that's what you're doing when you defend the Confederate flag or attempt to steer any conversation about it away from its implications of white supremacy.

So what? Lots of soldiers fight and die in wars that are against their own best interests. I'd go so far as to say that is the norm.

Call him on his pc bullshit. Good job. The pc crowd are the biggest racists of all and of course call everyone else a racist if they don't agree with the pc lies and crap.

Were those blacks white supremacists too? No one forced them to fight, they fought for what they believed in.
