Can you inject spores into casing layer instead of using rice cakes?

Ive tried the rice cake method and didnt like the results. So I was going to try the casing method but I was wondering if you could inject the spores into the casing instead of putting the rice cakes in. Thanks!

Nope, the casing layer isn't very nutritious and its only pastuerized so bacterial colonies would probably stall out the colonization.
A casing layer only helps create and hold moisture over a colonized substrate. I doubt it would work as the substrate.
Maybe if you are creative you can figure out a way to do it but casings are so easy as it is. Switching to grains even in 1/2pt jar would make much more of a difference.

Although I suspect OP means bulk substrate when he says casing. It's a mistake that keeps on popping up--a bit of old lingo from back in the day when nobody knew what the fuck they were talking about. If that's what OP means, then yeah, you could probably get away with doing something like Muda's bottles with a spore syringe.

Ah makes since, yeah spore water could be used but if its a large amount of "casing" then it might not colonize fast enough to beat contams.
I would always use agar, cardboard discs, pf-cakes, or liquid culture for anything larger than 1/2pt. Mycellial inoculate always out performs spores
