I'm not supposed to consume vitamin c?
    #21830517 - 06/19/15 10:56 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

according to my father, when he was younger they did extensive testing on him due to severe rashes he was breaking out in. He said that his diet is supposed to be very specific. No red meat. Fish, chicken. They said he might be wheat lactose intolerant.. He also said that there's something about vitamin c, he's not supposed to consume this but he can't remember he said his body just sweats it out and can't process it or something.

Anybody got any insights on this vitamin c thing?

Who said this?  There are alot of quacks out there.  Especially when it comes to nutrition and diets, trends and fads tend to come and go.

Humans cannot produce vitamin C, and it is essential, you must consume it or you will get scurvy.  As I understand it someone can be allergic to Vitamin C but vitamin C from natural sources will not cause a reaction, just don't take supplements or Vit C fortified products if you're allergic.

Just because your father is possibly allergic it doesn't mean you are.  If you haven't noticed anything before and you've drank cheap fruit drinks and candies, you're probably not allergic to ascorbic acid.

^ what this guy said, ye scurvy scalawags!

I mean, what do you want us to say?  You heard something second hand from your dad, who got the info many years ago.  I call into question the accuracy of this telephone game and recounting of memories.  Also I question the authority of the person originally giving your father the advice.  Maybe you all need to go back to that source to clarify if possible.  There must be some medical records at least.  If not, then I would get a second opinion.  Unless your dad is just comfortable with his lifestyle and enjoys the mental security of thinking he has good information and diagnosis to back up his food choices.  In that case, I would jsut put this whole thing in the category of "weird superstitions people believe for no good reason about health related stuff."  There's a whole, WHOLE lot of that to go around.  As in, pretty much everyone has weird health things they believe in because people are weird, and it's pointless to go around ruining relationships by challenging all the BS unless their choices are directly harming someone else like a child dependent.  Oops!  Fell off my high horse.  He bolted.  brb

Rofl! :smile: hehe

Robogenesis - pretty certain the consensus is, vitamin C is very good for you;

lotsa ways to get it naturally,

now, it is possible to get too many vitamins, but you have to go way excessive for that, i would say.
