I'm trying to track down the ingredients I'll need to make some agar dishes.
Is there a preference to using Liquid Malt Extract versus Dry Malt Extract?
Which should I be looking for?
Thank you,

They are the same. Dry is preferred because you can measure it by weight.
When you see LME in posts it is referring to Light Malt Extract dry or liquid.

OK. Does it go by any other names? I'm looking at my local Wine, Beer, and Brewing store but I can't find anything called Light Malt Extract.
I still need to call th to ask, however.

Really, anything with the word "malt" in it will work fine, but the lighter the better for visibility purposes. In my agar thread (check my sig) I have a long list of alternative simple sugars.
That said, your local brewing store will have light malt extract. If they don't, they are unworthy of being called a brewing store. Mock them loudly and to their faces. It's the base for almost all beers. Making beer without light malt is like making cole slaw without cabbage. It can technically be done, I guess, but what the fuck.

Just ask for malt extract, they will give you the choice of light or dark and liquid or dry.
Also you don't need much a little goes a long way in mycology.

i would most definitely go for powder lme. i have used both and liquid malt extract is extremely messy!!! its about the consistency of molasses and comes in a can. this means that unless you are going to transfer it from the can into a container(which you will probably make a mess) idk how to really save it. that being said the dry malt extract NEEDS to be in a air tight container as it will clump very badly. however they both work perfectly fine also a recommendation for liquid is to microwave some so its less viscous and use a syringe to measure it. i used a 30cc syringe and had no issues
