gypsum all over my grain

Hello, been awhile since I made quarts. 20 hour soak, added my gypsum to the water about 10 hours in and kinda stirred it. Forgot to do it in the beginning. I've boiled and cooled my gains and they have gypsum all over them. None have burst and I've let them cool properly, but wondering if gypsum covering the grain like sand is going to interfere with colonization time?
Note: I rinsed my grains well before hand. 4 runs. It is not mud or straw there, it is the gypsum I added about halfway thru my soak.
Thanks all

Gypsum has a negative solubility curve. That means it's less soluble in high temps than in low temps, which is the phenomenon behind the extraordinary gypsum crystals in that zinc mine in Mexico and also your grains.

I made this mistake once. I accidentally added so much gypsum that it looked like gray sand particles slightly coating my grains.
They came out fine. I feel like it slowed colonization a little bit in those jars but maybe it was just genetics or water content.

If you added gypsum directly to the jar it's certainly possible you dried them out. I did that once.

Slowed colonization is expected with higher nutritional content....gypsum just adds extra nutrients, so the mycellium takes its time consuming it.

Back when I used tyvek I would use micropore tape to tape down tyvek squares over a 1/4 inch GE hole. I'd either use 2 squares or tyvek or a few layers of micropore tape(3). I had good success with this method, but I also redid my filters every batch.
These days I use entire CFDs(cellulose filter discs) from alohaculturebank.com with their one piece, pre-drilled metal lids.

I'm doubtful this is true. It's a mineral, not a source of energy, so I doubt the mycelium would need to consolidate as it goes any more than it does with, say vermiculite.

Even if gypsum only a mineral source, it's certainly possible the mycelium spends time processing it in some way.
I've had added gypsum really dry my jars out though, so I feel moisture content is responsible more than anything.
I've added butt loads of gypsum and coffee to my grain jars in the past without noticing a change in colonization speeds, so I doubt nutrition/minerals are at play in reduced speeds.
I like seeing you around vdg.
