Plastic mason jar lids

Hey all
Quick question. Do the plastic canning jar lids I see in the canning isle (major brands like Ball or Kerr) hold up to PC cycles? They say they are only intended for storage on them and I dont want to waste SFDs if thry warp.
I usually use the auticlaveable ones you buy on like Fungi Perfecti
Thanks!

I've also been working with the walmart brand lids (MAINSTAYS) lately cuz they're like half the price and haven't had any problems with them so far and they've been through multiple runs.

I use the ball brand plastic lids. I get them at Smith's for 4.49 per 8 pack. I rough the tops up with steel wool, and drill 2 3/8" holes -- one for a SFD and one for an injection port. I use nickel sized SFD pieces and red RTV silicone.

I have a few dozen of the mainstays and ball brand and each of them have held up well through multiple pc runs.
I just wish I could find the high quality lids from perfecti in a wide mouth size

Yeah no kidding. If I could find a pack of several hundred polypropylene wide mouth lids I would invest for sure.

I really don't know much about toxicology but I would avoid using plastic because it would leach into the substrate. If you have to use plastic then use the ones with a number 1, 2, 4, or number 5 on it. Polypropylene which was referred to by NumeroEno is number 5.

Which is the only way they would survive the PC anyway.

Toxicity in plastic is really a moot point for what we're doing. Even if the plastic did leach a shitload of phenols into the mushroom substrate (which it doesn't), it wouldn't be enough to be mutagenic to the mycelium, and the mushrooms would not absorb it. I work in health foods and have people ask me about bisphenols all the fucking time. For the most part, the concern is completely groundless.
Sure, prolonged exposure to bisphenols had shown to have endocrine inhibiting and mutagenic effects, but it's very difficult to actually get sufficient exposure to cause harm.
