Hello everybody! First grow in progress and finally got some pins!!! ...many thanks to everyone's contribution on the site... Just wanted to see what you guys thought of these B+ BRF cakes. I did everything to the T from the let's grow mushrooms videos. The misting/fanning instructions were a little vague to me, so I hope I haven't under/over misted...basically misting when i see the cakes are a bit dryish, and fanning right after, as well as a few times throughout the day. Check out the bottom pins in the pic and let me know what you think. While you're at it, lmk about that top fatter one.
Thanks everyone!

Let's put a little wider piece of foil under your cake so that the perlite won't waterlog them okay - those poor pins
Congrats on your first grow I'll let the experts chime in now and help ya good luck!

I think the foil is trimmed perfectly. I've never had a cake get waterlogged, and I suspect it's impossible. I know RR has said it, but it hasn't been my experience, and I've never seen it on here, and I don't know how it could possibly be the case that a cake could get waterlogged by touching some damp perlite but NOT get waterlogged when you submerge them in water for an entire day. The bigger issue is that if the cake touches the perlite it'll try to colonize it and waste calories and time in the effort of trying to turn your SGFC into a mass of mycelium, but I don't think that's going to happen here.
Those are some ugly mutants, but they'll be good to eat. I'd let them grow until the caps begin to turn to a golden tan, then harvest.
You cakes look like they could use a little FAE. Mind showing us your FC?

Good thing I decided to check the thread again...I was just about to twist and pull some of those mutants since the veil tore. Here's my fc...made too many holes initially and taped a few up.
The temp is at 70F, humidity can't tell because the hygrometer blows balls.
This is the same cake today...

Thanks for your input and advice!

I can't really see what's going on beneath it. Do you have it elevated off the surface it's sitting on?

Yeah my bad, I'm using two chairs on both edges of the fc to elevate it about two feet off the floor. Not close to any vents or fans. No fans running in the room.

it's never happened to me so it's probably impossible.

From what I can tell from the pictures provided is that the holes on the SGFC look smaller than a 1/4" diameter, your perlite is uneven and it's depth may need to be a tad bit deeper. But hey, be proud, you got fruits.
oh, and the 2" grid pattern looks a little off. A combination of these things can cause a lack of FAE and/or lowered rh.

Thanks for the straight forward feedback. I did realize there is opportunity with my sgfc. I'll be building a new one per the exact specs shortly.
But like you said, at least I got fruits!

If going for a 2nd flush be sure to dunk them before introducing them to fruiting conditions again, they sure do look they need it.

Just put them back in the fc after a 24 hr dunk. I soaked the perlite again too and fluffed it up. Let's see what happens in a few days.
